TICKET OR CARD HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 787,452, dated April 18, 1905.
Application filed. August 15, 1904:- Serial No. 220,722.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR L. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States,residing atSeattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ticket or Card Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to ticket or card holders, and more specifically to certain improvements in the holder of this class illustrated and described in United States Patent No. 735,773, issued to me August 11, 1903; and the object of the present invention is to provide means to facilitate the charging and ejectment of the tickets and generally to render the device more convenient and efiicient in operation.
Referring to said drawings,Figure-1 is a cen-' tral vertical longitudinal section, and Fig. 2 is a similar transverse section, of a ticketholder embodying my improvements. Figs. 3 and 4 are respectively perspective views of the holder complete and of the inner case thereof shown detached.
The improved device comprises a boxshaped outer case a, which is open at the top, an inner case 6, having an apertured top 0 and pendent sides d, and a ticket-hoist e, positioned interiorly of the inner case. At the lower f ront ends of said sides are forwardly-protruding lugs f for engaging with corresponding perforations f of the adjacent end of the outer case, and extending downwardly from the middle of the opposite end of the top 0 is a tongue g, terminating in an end 9 rectangular thereto. This tongue is formed so that the end g thereof will normally project beyond the rear end of the inner case and being somewhat resilient furnishes a spring-latch which is adapted to engage with an aperture it, provided in the end of case a.
The ticket-hoist is mounted upon longitudinally-disposed springs 2', capable of exerting an upward pressure sufficient to elevate the contained tickets t and successively present them immediately beneath the aperture 0 of top 0 and in line with a delivery-opening a, provided in the end of case a. The aperture tageous because of the increased pliability due to decreasing the amount of metal of the top thereat, distributing the strain encountered in the bending movement of the tongue over an enlarged area.
After the tickets have been placed between the top of the inner case and the hoist the various parts can be assembled as follows: The front ends of the inner case with the hoist and tickets are tilted down and collectively entered into the outer case, when by moving back the latch-tongue and pressing in the parts being inserted, the lugs and latch are caused to be engaged and secure the several parts together.
The device is taken apart for recharging with tickets by reversing these operations after the tongue end is disengaged by pressing it inwardly with the thumb-nail.
The tickets are ejected as required by exerting a slight frictional endwise pressure upon the top ticket with the thumb or finger of the operator, which is thrust through the aperture 0' of the inner case.
Having described my invention, what I. claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A new article of manufacture, comprising an outer box-shaped case open at the top and provided with a ticket-delivery opening at one end; an inner case formed with a top having a spring-tongue, depending from one end of the top and formed with an outwardlyprojecting end adapted to enter an aperture in the end of the case, and pendent sides having lugs at their lower corners entering apertures in the end of the case, said top being provided with an opening through which-the fingers may be inserted to eject the contained tickets; and a spring-raised ticket-hoist.
2. The combination of the case part a provided with delivery-opening a and apertures f and h, the case part I) provided with aperture 0'. spring-latch g depending from one end of the cover and having an outwardlyprojeeting end adapted to engage the end of the case and sides (Z of case part b said sides being provided With forwardlyprotruding lugs f, and a spring-raised hoist a, substantially as and for the purposes described.
