IMPROVED TABLE AND QUILTING-FRAME.
ilunrtlgnult nitriet tu in tten ttttn's "ztteut mit mating atri nf tige sane.
TO ALL WHOA-I IT MAY'CONCERN:
j Be itknown that I, M ILTON E. PIILILLIPS, of Lena, in the county 'ofStephensom-vand State of Illinois, 'have invented a certain newand useful Improvement inV avCombined Quilting-Frameand Stand or Table, of which the following vis a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which Y make vpart 'of' this specification, and in which- Figure 1 representen plan or top view of my combined quilting-frame and table in position to bensed as a quilting-frame. n i I Figure 2, a' vertical transverse central section through gthe line :u a; of fig. 1 and Figure 3 a View, partly in section of the under side ofthe table or stand.
It is the objectof my invention so to construct a table or stand that itv can readily be converted inten quilting-frame, and to this end theimprovement herein claimed consists'- I In combining, with-a centrally-divided leg, a centrally-divided hinged tabl'-top, pivoted 01' hinged supports, and spring-detents, horizontal frame-pieces, ratchets, and a horizontal brace, substantially' as. hereinafter described. i
In the accompanying drawings, A rcpresentsatable-top, formed intwo pieces, each piece being hinged at C, to one part of a. cenrailydivided support or leg', B, having feet B. One part of this leg has pins c, which tinto-holes in thevothcr half of the leg ivheii the parte are united. A hole iin each part of the leg receive's'a brace, D, to strengthenthe parts when used as a quilting-frame. i
To the under side of the tabletop, bracesor supports, E EE E', are ,pivotodor hinged, at one end, so as to move parallel with the underside of the top. Pins e, in the bracesE-E, t intoholes in the others -when the parts of ythe table are united, and thusbrace them rmly. vHoles in theonter ends of these braces receive pieces F,l
(to form vthe qniltinglframe,) havingratchetsG, on one orboth ofl their ends, which engage with spring-detents H, on the braces or supports E The dctents allow-the pieces F to be turned, to keep 'the work tight', and rollit upas it is finished, but prevent-them from ,turning back again.
Holes in the braces or supports E EE E registering, (as the supports are moved up or do'\vn,)iwith holes' in the under side of the tahle-topg'serve, by the `insertion in them of pins to adjust the braces, vand consequently the franie-pieces et' the quilting-frame vertically,\to snit the height of different persons.
When my invention is to be used as a table or stand, the braces E E are partly folded, and the two parts of the 'table are pushed together 54 thebraees E E are then folded against the inner braces E E, the pins in which' enter theholes in the outer braces, and the pins inone part oftheleg fit into holes in theother part, thus form. ing a strong table. Y I
The table might be strengthened by a hook on one leg to-enter a. staple on the other.
When a quilting-frame is wanted, the table is divided by separating theouter braces from the inner ones; and unhooking tho hook from its staple. The framepieces and brace are then inserted into the holes in the braces or supports, and the table-legend the braces are Iadjusted. te suit the height of the operator. The material to be quilted can then beattached tothe frame. i
A hooknnight be attached ina slot Qgroove, vto each half ofthe table-leg, and staple suitably attached ,to each half of thetablc-top, so that when the parts are sepa-rated, by hooking the top to thevleg, to keep it from falling, two tables or stands could be formed, Vto be placed with-the straightsidc against-a Wall.-
Additional holes might be made in the braces or supports and. in the leg, for the insertion of" a nurber of frame-pieces, to form a clothes-drier.
What'I claim" as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- K The combination, substantially us'setforth, with a eentrally-divided leg, centrally-divided hinged tabletop, pivoted supports, andspring-detents, of horizontal frame-pieces', i'atchets, and a horizontal brace, for' the purposes specified.
In testimony \vhereof,-I hay'e'herennto subscribed my name.
