INHALEFI.
SPECIFICATIONforming part of Letters Patent No. 784,632, dated March 14:, 1905.
Application filed June 13,1904. Serial No. 212,238.
To all, whom, it many concern: I and which has its vertical members extending Beitknown that I, WILLIAM M. RIoKET'rs, a through the side grooves 3 of the receptacle citizen of the United States, residing at 1, said receptacle being thus slidably supportlumbus, inthe county of Franklin and State ed between said wire members. The ends of 5 of Ohio, have invented a certain new and usethe wire 4 are hooked into connection with ful Improvement in Inhalers, of which the laterally-projecting studs 5 ofa bowed springfollowing is a specification. strip 6, the latter being in the form of an eye- My invention relates to the improvement glass nose bridge or yoke and terminating in of inhalers of that class which are adapted to inclined nose-clamping pieces or guards 7 of 10 be supported or suspended from the nose of the character ordinarily employed in connecthe person using the same. tion with eyeglasses or spectacles. In their The objects of my invention are to provide upper portions the vertical members of the an inhaler of this class of improved construcwire l are looped to form laterally-extending tion and arrangement of parts; to so construct eyes 8. 15 my device as to facilitate its ready adjustment In utilizing my invention the spring 6 is to the nose of the wearer; to so support the madeto bridge the nose of the patient in the inhaler asv to permit of the adjustment of the usual manner, while the clamps 7 are held by body thereof to a proper position for inhaling said spring in clamping engagement with opthe vapor therefrom either through the nosposite sides of the nose. In this manner the 2 trils or mouth; to so connect the nose-clamp case or receptacle 1 is suspended beneath the with the supporting-wires of the inhaler-body nostrils in proper position to insure the inas to permit of said clamp being swung to the haling of the vapor or medicated air arising 7o desired clamping position, and to produce from the contents of the receptacle. In view other improvements the details of which will of the fact that the receptacle is slidably 25 be more fully pointed out hereinafter. These mounted between the wire members it will be objects I accomplish in the manner illustrated understood that the position of the receptacle in the accompanying drawings, in which may be adjusted vertically, said receptacle Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved being held in the position to which the same inhaler. Fig. 2 is a side view thereof at right is moved by the clamping or spring action of 30 angles with that shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a said wire members.
transverse section on line :0 w of Fig. 1,' and Owing to the formation of the perforations Fig. 4 is a central vertical section on line y g 2 in the rear wall of the receptacle, it will be of Fig. 1. Observed that the latter may be so adjusted Similar numerals refer to similar parts as to be supported opposite the mouth of the 3 5 throughout the several views. wearer, thus permitting of the inhalation be- In carrying out my invention I employ a ing accomplished either through the nostrils suitably-shaped receptacle or case 1, which is or mouth. The hook connections between the 8 designed to contain adesirable medicament or wire members and the stud 5 are such as to medicated material. Thereceptaclel isclosed permit of the nose-engaging device, which 4 at its lower end andopen at its upper end, and comprises the spring 6, clamps 7, and stud 5, its rear wall is formed with the desired numbeing swung so as to stand at desirable angles ber of perforations 2, these latter being indiwith relation to the supporting wire"members 9o cated in Figs. 3 and t of the drawings. The and permit of such adjustment of the noseopposite sides of the receptacle 1 are formed clamping parts as will facilitate the engage- 45 with parallel vertical grooves or recesses 3, ment of noses of different conformation.
which extend throughout the length of the re- It will be understood that the loops or eye ceptacle. irepresents a wire support which, projections 8 may have connected therewith as shown, is bent to asubstantially yoke form the ends of a suitable retaining-cord, which,
if desirable for use, may pass about the ears or head of the patient.
From the construction which 1 have described it will be seen that a comparatively simple and inexpensive device is produced which may be readily connected with and properly supported from the nose of a patient and that the same will be of great utility in the treatment of catarrh, asthma, hay fever, lung, throat, and other troubles where it is desirable to treat the parts by inhalation of medicated air or vapor.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In an inhaler, the combination with areceptacle and supports rising therefrom, of a spring-actuated nose-clamping device connected to and disposed between the supports.
2. In an inhaler, the combination of a receptacle, a yoke-like support between the vertical members of which said receptacle is slidably mounted, and a spring-actuated nose-' clamping device having a hinged connection with said supports.
3. In an inhaler, the combination of a receptacle having its opposite sides grooved, a yoke-like support, the upright members of which lie in the opposing grooves of said receptacle, and a nose-clamping device connected with the upper portion of said support and comprising a bowed spring, clamping-pieces, and projecting studs, substantially as described.
4. In an inhaler, the combination with a receptacle having one of its sides perforated and having its sides at right angles therewith provided with vertical grooves, of a support comprising a yoke-like frame the vertical members of which enter said receptacle-grooves, and a spring-actuated clamping device connected with the ends of said support.
