Description
No. 782,833. PATENTED FEB. 21, 1905. J. J. DENNIS.
DEPOSIT REGBPTAOLE.
APPLIGATION FILED APR. 19, 1904.
UNITED STATES Patented February 21, 1905.
JOHN J. DENNIS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DEPOSIT-RECEPTACLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 782,833, dated February 21, 1905. Application filed April 19, 1904. Serial No. 203,911.
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. DENNIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Deposit-Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to deposit-receptacles, and more particularly a receptacle which is fixed to a door or window jamb to receive a milli-bottle and to protect the same from theft.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which shall be simple in construction and thoroughly reliable in operation; and it consists in certain novel features of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the invention, showing the application thereof. Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a side elevation. Fig. L is a longitudinal section showing the receptacle empty, the article-carrier being unlocked and extended in position to receive the bottle. Fig. 5 is a horizontal section of a modification, showing the device fastened to the door.
Referring specially to the drawings, 5 denotes a rectangular box which is secured to the door-jamb 6 by screws or in any other suitable manner. The box is open on both ends and is so positioned on the door-jamb that its rear end will be closed by the door 7 when the same is shut. The box contains a sliding carrier or tray 8 to receive the bottle and has a latch 9, which engages behind a catch 10 on the floor of the box. The latch is pivoted on the bottom of the carrier, in which an opening 11 is made, through which the latch can be manipulated to disengage it from the catch. The carrier-has an upwardly-extending flange 12 in front, and the box is so proportioned that when a bottle is placed on the carrier -said bottle will fit snugly in the box between the sides thereof and will also extend to the top thereof, so that it cannot be tilted. It will therefore be impossible to remove the bottle from the front end of the box after the carrier is locked therein by the latch 9. The
carrier is slotted on one side, as at 13, and a pin 14, secured to the box, extends therethrough to limit the outward movement of the carrier.
. In use the latch is first disengaged, it being readily reached through the opening 11, heretofore described. The carrier is then pulled outwardly from the box and the bottle deposited thereon over the opening 11, after which the carrier is pushed back into the box, in which it will then be securely locked by the latch 9, which drops behind the catch 10. Thelatch cannot be tampered with, as the bottle covers the opening 11, and the bottle cannot be removed, by reason of its close fit in the box and the flange 12 on the carrier. It is readily removed from the rear of the box by opening the door 7.
With a slight modification the box may be fastened to the door instead of the jamb, in which case it will be closed by the jamb when the door is shut.
Having thus described my invention, what is new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with a door and the jamb thereof, of a deposit-receptacle comprising a box secured to the door-jamb and open on both ends, the rear end abutting against the door, asliding article-carrier in the box, and means for locking the carrier in the box and preventing removal of the article from the front end thereof.
2. The combination with a door and the jamb thereof, of a deposit-receptacle comprising a box secured to the door-jamb and open on both ends, the rear end abutting against the door, a sliding article-carrier in the box, and means for locking the carrier in the box and preventing removal of the article from the front end of the box, said locking means being covered by the article to prevent access to the lock.
3. The combination with a door and the the catch and an opening through which ac- I carrier in the box and preventing removal ofcess is had to the latch, said opening being the article from the front end thereof.
