A. e. BUZBY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 78,258, dated May 26, 1868.
IMPROVED COPYING-INK.
flit: Stimuli ftitmb in in time sitters patent mm mating part at its time. A
To ALL WHOM IT MAY- CONCERN:
Be it known that I, A. G. BUZIBY, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an' Improved Copying-Ink; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, andexact description of the same.
My invention consists of the combination, with any of the well-known ink-making ingredients, of glycerinc or gelatine, or both, and bichloride of mercury, so that copies of documents written, with this ink maybe obtained by simply. applying the written surface to unsizedcopying-paper, without wettingthmsamgnndwithout theiaid cf the usual press. V
In order-to enable others skilled in the art to make my invention, I will now proceed to describe the mode of manufacturing the some. I
A writing-ink is first prepared, by dissolving, in thirty gallons of water, twenty pounds of galls, thirteen 7 pounds of sulphate ofiron, three pounds of indigo-paste, and about'fii'teen pounds ofsugsr, with which is added gelatine or glycerine, either or both of them, separate, or combined with each other (or with gum) in the proportionrof about one-tenth of the whole. To the ink thus prepared is added one-half ounce bichlorido of men.-
cury dissolved in one quart of alcohol. The preparation is stirred frequently, until's thorough solution of all the ingredients is efl'ected, when it will be ready for use.
I have found that suink prepared'as above described will not decompose, and that it will remain moist for such a length'of time after being applied to paper, that no difiieulty is experienced in obtaining :1. distinct and legible copy, by the application of dry blotting-paper in the usual manner.
I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An ink, composed of water, galls, sulphate of iron indigo, sugar, gum-arabic, or other welblnown inkmaking ingredients, in combination with glycerine or gelatine, or both, and bichloride of mercury or its equivalent, the whole being combined in the proportions substantinllly as described for the purpose specified. In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
