Description

- @uiten tstes gnent @fitta Letters Patent No. 78,059, dated May 19, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN WRAPPRS FOB. NEEDLES.
'dite ttgthult tritt-nnte in tigen Petters irtent 'mit mating niet at tlge hun.
lO ALLWHOM IT MAY .CONCERNz' Be it known that I, JOHN CLARKE, of Redditch, in the county of Worcester, and Kingdom of England, needle-manufacturenrra subject of her Britannie Majesty, have invented Improvements in Wrappers or Envelopes for Needles; invention; that is to say- This invention consists in 'making wrappers or envelopes for needles, in such manner that a sheath or nccdle-ease is so connected at itsA one end to'an envelopeor outer Wrapper or ease as to form a`sort of hinged part upon such envelope or outer wrapper, so that when the outer Wrapper is opened,` and the ends of the needles exposed, the opening outward, and consequent pressure of the bottom part of the outer wrapper, and loiver end of th'e sheath or needle-ense, will cause suclrsheath to spring,r forward into a vertical position, enabling the needles tobe selected and extracted therefrom with greatfaeility.
object and nature of this invention will be better understood byA reference to the drawings hereudto attached.
t-o ,show the outlines of the same.
4a. is the sheath or needle-case, connected at its one end, a', to an envelope or outer wrapper, b, so as to form a sortof hinged partv upon the envelope or outer Wrapper Z. The outerwrapper b consists of two closing or folding sideivings, 1 2, which fold .one upon the other and theneedle-sheath a, as seenat iig. 2i The outer wrapper Iz alsoconsists of a, bottom or tail-piece, 3, for folding up and upon the side-pieces 1 A2, andthe needlesheath a, and a top flap-piece, 4, the end of which passes into the free end or bottom of the tail-pieco 3 upon the closing of the Wrapper, and secures it; tig. 3 showing the wrapper closed. i
When the outer wrapper bis opened, and the ends ofthe needles exposed, the opening outward and conseqacntpressure of the bottom part 3, and the lower end ofthe sheath or needle-case a, will cause such slieatha to spring forward into a vertical position, as shown at iig. 4 enabling the needles to be selected therefrom with great facility. n
Figure-5 shows the envelope or needle-case inV perspective when opened and in position for use. I claim the sheath ct, applied to the wrapper Z1, to operate in the manner and for the purpose substantially as set forth. A 4 l The above specification of'my invention signed by me, this tenth day of February, in the year of ouTI'roTd one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.
JOHN CLARKE.
