STERILIZING APPARATUS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 774,948, dated November 15, 1904.

Be it known that I. MILO B. PERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in sterilizing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to provide means for sterilizing tools, more particularly barbers tools, without allowing the vapor or fumes of the sterilizing chemicals to escape into the room. It comprises a box into which the razors and other articles may be placed, having a supply-inlet for the sterilizing-vapor and also having a compressed-air inlet and a waste-outlet for blowing the sterilizing-vapor out .of the box when the operation is finished.

The device is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of the box open. Fig. 2 is a top plan view with the cover removed. Fig. 3 is a vertical crosssection. Figs. 4 and 5 are respectively a perspective and a cross-section of a modification.

The device comprises a box 6, having a hinged lid 7, which is made to fit tight when closed, so that the vapors or fumes in the box will not escape. The box has a copper lining, as indicated at 8, to resist the action of the disinfecting or sterilizing agent, and also a perforated false bottom 9, which is raised an inch or two above the bottom of the box. The perforations in the bottom allow the passage therethrough of the sterilizing-vapor, which is introduced therebelow through a tube 10 and stop-cock 11.

At 12 an inlet-pipe is indicated, controlled by a cook 13 for the admission of air from {any suitable compressed-air tank or from a At 14 a waste-pipe is indicated, controlled by a cook 15. It is intended that this pipe should extend out of doors or into a chimney or the like to carry off the fumes when they are discharged from the box.

13 and 15 turned on. This allows the blast of air to enter through the pipe 12, which soon blows the fumes out through the pipe 1 1. Then the box may be opened and the tools removed. The escape into the room of the disagreeable and nauseating fumes of the chemicals used,

as in existing devices, is thereby avoided. Various modifications may be made in the de- 6 vice within the scope of the invention as covered by the following claims.

In the modification shown in Figs. 4: and 5 a drawer and outside casing are used instead of the openable box. The casing is indicated at 20, and 21 indicates a drawer slidable therein. The side of the casing has an inlet-pipe 22 for the sterilizing-vapor, and the side of the drawer has an opening (indicated at 23) which registers with the end of said inlet- 7 pipe when the drawer is shoved in. Similarly there is a waste-pipe 24: in the end of the casing which registers with the hole 25 in the end of the drawer, and the front of the drawer has an air-inlet 26, being a flexible pipe, so that the drawer may be moved in or out. Each of these pipes has asuitable cock.

In the operation of this modification the tools are put in the drawer, which is then closed. The sterilizingvapor being turned on fills the same, after which the vapor is blown out through the waste-pipe 24: by air admitted through the pipe 26, as will be understood from the above description.
