ALBERT WAKEFIELD. (3F BANNACK, MONTANA.
PROdECTlLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 772,850,1iated October 18, 1904. Application filed November 13,1903. Serial No. 191,105: (No an) 1'0 all whom, it may concern: I
Be it known that I, ALBERT WAKEFIELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bannack, in the county of Beaver-head and State of Montana, have invented new and useful mprovements in Projectiles, of which the following'is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in projectiles especially adapted for submarine purposes; and its object is to provide a device of this character having means whereby the same can be guided through water in a direct line subsequent to its discharge. I
The invention consists in providing a projectile having a substantially conical end which is inclosed by an integral tapered sleeve having a desired number of slots therein.
The invention also consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side eleva' tion of the projectile. Fig. 2 is a section theretln'ough.
Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, l is the cylindrical body of a projectile having a substantially conical extension 2 formed integral therewith and extending from the center of one end thereof. This extension is inclosed by a tapered sleeve 3. the
outer faces of which are flush with the outer the extension 2' it will be understood that said extension will move straight forward in its course and will be unaffected by .the water contacted thereby.
In the foregoing description I have shown the preferred form of my invention; but I do not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I therefore reserve the right to make such alterations as may fairly fall within the scope of my invention.
Havingthus fully described the invention,
what is claimed. as new 1s- 1. Aprojectile havingani'ntegralextension at one end thereof, and an apertnred sleeve integral with the projectile and inclosing the extension, said sleeve being tapered toward its outer end. a
2. A projectile having a tapered extension at one end thereof, and a slotted sleeve i'nte gral with the projectile and inclosing said extension.
3. A projectile having a tapered extension at one end thereof and integral therewith, and a longitudinally-slotted sleeve integral with the projectile and inclosing the extension, said sleeve being tapered toward its outer end.
4. A projectile formed in a single piece of metal and comprising a body, a tapered extension centrally arranged upon one end thereof and integral therewith. and a longipresence of two witnesses.
