Improvements in Vending-Machines, of which the following is a specification.

. My invention relates to improvements 1n vending-machines; and the objects of' my in- IO vention are to devise a machine tocontain cigars or the like, which'may be extracted one at a time by the insertion of a coin in an automatic releasing portion of the device, further objects being to improve the receptacle for the articles to be sold and the discharging portions of such machines in order to make the same simple and cheap in construction,

to make it impossible to cheat the machine, and to avoid any damaging of the articles being vended when they are being extracted 'from lthe machine; and it consists, essentially,

of a receptacle of suitable form having a raisable side or front and a reversible trough normally opening` inwardly into the receptacle, and means whereby said trough may be reversed byraising said slidable side or front, thereby emitting one of the articles from the receptacle, the said slidable sideor front being normally'locked in position, but releasable .by the insertion ofa coin into a suitable releasing mechanism, the various parts of the device .being constructed and, arranged in detail as hereinafter more particularly described.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the machine, certain portions of the casing being broken away to show the interior construction. The means which I employ to reverse the emitting-receptacle when the frame is raised is shown in Fig. 2, and an alternative means is shown in Fig. 4. The construction shown in Fig. 2 consists of a recess formed in the forward portion of the machine,'into which the front 'of the receptacle extends, thus causing the receptacle to be reversed when the frame is raised. The alternative construction shown in Fig. 4 is as follows; A suitable ring or eye e is secured to the outer bend of the receptacle C. A rod 0 is suspended from the eye c, and this rod is provided at its lower end with a longitudinal slot c. A ring o3 isv secured to the casing of the machine and passesl through the slot c2. It will thus be seen that on raising the frame B the rod c will cause the receptacle C to be tilted forwardly, so as the lowered position.

Any suitable means may be employed for vnormally holding` the slidable front locked in l have indicated means for this purpose in the drawings; but it is to be understood that l do not wish to claim this part of my invention in the present application, but'l desire to reserve the right to file a divisional application to cover these and other features of the device.

What l claim as my invention isf- 1. in an automatic vending-machine in combination a receptacle, 'avertically-slidable front for the receptacle, means operated by the raising of the front whereby one article vat its upper end. to the forward edge of said trough and 'at its lower end toe. stationary portion of the casing as and for 'the purpose specilied.

3. in a device of the class described the combination with the casing comprising the upn right portion and the forwardly-extending portion, of a receptacle havingadownwardly and forwardly sloping floor, and aback formed integral therewith, a top secured to the hach and a curved plate secured to said top by a suitable hinge, aslotted hinge at the juncture ot the floor and the back, and means for locking said curved plate to the front of the casing as and for the purpose speciied.

5. In an automatic vending-machine in couibination a receptacle, a raisable front for the receptacle having a recess or laterally-extending oriice in its lower portion, a trough pivotally suspended in said orifice, said trough being adapted to open normally into the receptacle and means whereby the front when raised will cause said trough to overturn and open outwardly from the receptacle :is and for the purpose specilied.
