PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES A. CALDWVELL, OF ROCHESTER, NE'W YORK.
FOOT-TUB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 771,124, dated. September 27 Application filed November 7, 1903. Serial no; 180,182.
To all whmn it nuty concern:
Be it known that 1, JA ES A. CALDWELL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Foot-Tub, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in foot bath-tubs, an object being to provide a tub of this character that may be readily placed in an ordinary or large bath-tub and having a drain-nipple adapted to engage in the bath-tub drain-pipe, thus permitting the running off of Water from the foot-tub without danger of any other water passing into the large bath-tub and possibly soiling the same.
I will describe a foot-tub embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims."
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a foot-tub embodying my invention, showing the same in a bath-tub. Fig. 2 is a section in the line in m of Fig. 1. Fig. 3is asectional detail showing the drain -connections. Fig. 4 is a section on the line y y of Fig. 5, and Fig. 5 is a plan view of the foot-tub.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a foot-tub made of any suitable material-Such, forinstance, as metal. Its upper edge is turned over, as indicated at 2, and as this tub is designed to be placed in a bath-tub 3 it is shaped to conform to the bath-tub. Therefore I do not confine the shape of the tub to that shown in the drawings. The tub is designed to be placed in a bath-tub at the end having the faucets 4, so that the water may be discharged from said faucets into the foot-tub. The foottub is provided with a drain-nipple 5, adapted to engage in the drain-pipe 6 of the bath-tub, and this nipple 5 is provided with the usual stop-plug7. Surroundingthe nipple, between the bottom thereof and the bottom of the bath-tub, is a washer 8, of rubber or similar material, and this washer is designed to pre- 1904. 7 (N0 model.)
vent any possible passing of water from the drain or from the foot-tub into the bath-tub. Near its end opposite the drain-nipple the foot-tub is partially surrounded by a strip 9, of rubber or other suitable material. This strip 9 is designed to engage against the sides of the bath-tub and also against the bottom thereof and prevent scratching or Inarring of the bath-tub. Arranged transversely in the foot-tub near one end is a foot-rest 10, upon which a person may place his feet when drying them.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination with a bath-tub, of a foot-tub designed to be placed in said bath-tub at the end thereof having the faucets, the foottub being shaped to conform to the end and sides and bottom of the bath-tub to lie in close proximity to all of said parts and having a drain-nipple extending downwardly into the drain-pipe of the bath-tub, a washer of yielding material surrounding said nipple to form a water-tight joint between the two tubs and at the same time also forming a yieldingsupport for that end of the foot-tub, and a cushion of yielding material extending around the bottom and sides of the foot-tub at the end oppositethe end having the nipple, said cushion filling in the space between the two tubs and forming a yielding support for that end of the foot-tub. i 2. A foot-tub for use in connection with the bath-tub having a short drain-nipple at one end for engaging the drain-pipe of the bathtub, and at its other end having a cushion material extending around the sides and bottom of the tub for filling the space between the two tubs and forming a support for'the foot-tub.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES A. CALDWELL.
