IMPROVEMENT IN HOT-WATER ELEVATORS.
Hit: 5632211112 retemh tn in painters fittmt nut making anti at flje time TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM EJPBALL, of the city of Washington, District of Columbia, have invented a new and improved Mode of Elevating Hot Water in Dwellings where the conveniences ofpublic water-works cannot be obtained; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the'lettcrs of reference marked thereon.
The nature cf my "invention consists in placing, within a furnace, a hcating-chambor, A, which is connected to a well or cistern by means of a pipe, B. Said pipe is provided with a valve, 0, and cold-water chamber'D, situated above and adjacent to the heatingchamber, or the'vvalv s may be placedat the lower end of the pipe under the water. Y
There is also a discharge-pipe, E, connecting with the heating-chamber, situated below the supply-pipe and extending to the boiler and to the tank 'placed at the, top of the house. This pipeis also provided with a valve, F, placednear the heating-chamber. x v
There may be more than one valve in each pipe, or their positions may be changed to produce the most uniform flow oi water. A pipe, G, attached to the heating-chamber, near the point where the supply-pipe enters,
and connecting with tl1e.cQ lrl-watcr chamber at the tap, is also provided, for the purpose of equalizing .the
pressure on each side of the cold-water chamber from thesteam in-the heating chamber, so that-th'cheatin chamber may be immediately refilled by the specific gravity of the water in the cold-water chamber.
On'filling the heater and pipes with water and applying the 'hcat,.stcam .is generated in the heater, the force oi which closes the valve in the supply-pip.e, and opens the valve in the dischargepipe, forcing the water from the heater through the dischargc-pipc, as low as the point'u'here tho supply-pipe enters the heater, (whichis above the 'discharge-pipc,) when the cold water from the cold-water chain-her is ejcct ed,'which condenses the steam and creates a vacuum in the heater. This closes the'valve in the'discharge-pipc and opens the valve in the supply-pipe, and the heating-chamber is again .r'ofilled, and thus the water is drawn from the cistern by suction to the heater, and forced by the steam to the upper part of theliouse.
The water is conveyed from the tank to any part of the house, and thehot water is forced through pipes connecting with the boiler bythe force of the colump of water in th eapipe extending to the taulcfrom the boiler. A waste-pipe is attached to the tank to convey the water back to the cistern should it become filled. .Cocks for draining the pipes are provided.
Claim. I I In connection with a ,stove or like heater, and for doni'estic purposes, an automatic water-elevator; constructcd and operating substantially and for the purpose set forth.
