.SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 769,587, dated September 6, 1904:.
Application filed November 7,1903. Serial No. 180,229. lNo model.)
To n.77/ 107mm, 'it mm1/y concern:
Re it known that l', JOSEPH 1V. BRANDEN- BURG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Burial-Vaults, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvement-s in burial-vaults; and its object is to provide a structure of this character the parts of which can be readily removed and secured together to form an air and water proof device which is practically indestructible as a result of the action of moisture or various climatic conditions.
rl`he invention consists in providing a vault formed, preferably, of three parts which are molded into proper shape and which are adapted to be readily assembled within a grave and which will be firmly held together by securing means provided for the parts.
The invention further consists in forming each section of a combination of metal and cement, whereby the device may be rendered more lasting.
The invention also consists in the further novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanyingdrawings, showing the preferred form of my invention, and in which-e Figure l is a longitudinal section through the vault, one wall thereof being broken away and showing the arrangement of the metal therein. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section through the vault, and Fig. 3 is a section on line 3 3, Fig. 2.
Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, 1 is the base of the vault, the same being formed of cement, in which is embedded a width of wire-netting '2, which serves to bind the cement together and prevent the base from breaking into two or more parts. A
After a grave has been dug the base l of the vault is placed therein, and the walls l0 are then lowered, so as to permit the pins 8 to project into recesses 9. 'lhc meeting edges of the walls 10 and the tlanges 3 may then be sealed together by means of a suitable cement, (not showin) and the vault is then ready `for use. The cover 14 can be readily lowered into position with its edges in the recesses 13, and after it has been properly placed cement or other material may be molded over the adjoining edges of the cover and the walls 10, thereby thoroughly sealing the vault against the admission of air or moisture.
In the foregoing description I have shown the preferred form of my invention; but l do not limit myself thereto, as l am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrilicing any of the advantages thereof, and l therefore reserve the right to malte such changes as fairly fall within the scope oit' my invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is* A device of the character described having a base and Walls formed of cement, rods eIn- 'In testimony whereof I affix mysignature in bediled Within. and dextending longitidinallv presence of two Witnesses. of t e sides and en s of the device, tie enc s of the rods having right-angle extensions and JOSEPH YV BRANDENBURG' 5 adapted to overlap at the corners of the de- Vitnesses:
vice, and a @over for the device formed of ce JOHN NI. NUTT, ment and having netting embedded therein. CHAS. W. FINGH.
