PATENT OFFICE.
TAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 767,349, dated August 9, 1904.
I Application filed December 4, 1902. Serial No. 133,899- (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
- Be it known that I, CHARLES H. KITTREDGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tags, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object the production of an improved tag adapted to be attached to trunks, parcels, or packages with an accompanying return-check to be detached from the tag at the time of its application to the article and to be filed with the tag upon the delivery of the article to which the tag was attached.
The drawing represents a face View of my invention, showing the perforation by means of which the returned check may be connected with the attaching tape, string, or wire of the tag for filing.
In the drawing, A represents the tag, which is composed of the two plies of Manila paper or other suitable material. C represents a looped tape, string, or wire, which is inserted between the said plies of paper at about the longitudinal median line thereof and extends from end to end of the tag, with the looped end projecting therefrom far enough to provide means whereby the tag may be readily secured to the article without the employment of a fastening-knot. WVhen the tape, string, or wire O has been properly inserted, the two plies are to be glued or cemented together throughout their whole extent on both sides of and over the looped flexible attaching means, thus securing the latter firmly to the tag, and in order to provide for the ready separation of the check (Z from the body portion 6 of the tag A the said tag is provided with the series of perforations ff and with a I slit g, which serves to sever the attaching means C, held between the plies of the tag, so that the separation of the check 03 from the body portion 6 may be readily effected. The check d of the tag may also be provided with the perforation h, by means of which the said check may be strung over the looped attaching means 0 of the tag for proper filing for future reference.
I claim .as my invention- 1. In a tag, the combination of the cemented plies, with the flexible attaching means formed into an attaching-loop and held between the connected plies, and severed at a line of perforations extending across the tag, the removable check portion, provided with a perforation adapted to receive the loop of the attaching means, and strengthening means interposed between said perforation and the edge of the check, substantially as described.
2, In a tag, the combination of the cemented plies, with the flexible attaching means held between the connected plies and severed at a line of perforations extending across the tag, the removable check portion, provided with a perforation extending through said attaching means, that portion of the attaching means interposed between the perforation and the edge of the check being adapted to strengthen that portion of the check, substantially as described.
