IMPROVEMENT IN GONDUGTORS REGISTBRS. n
iige Srigemlt trftrreh tu in time Enters @non mit making niet tf tige same.
T0 WII'OM I'l MAY CONCERNE- Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. McGILL, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new'and usefulConductors Register and Ticket-Case; and I hereby deciare the following to he a full, clear, and exact description thereof, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to a peculiarly-arranged case, box, or wallet, in portable form, which may be carried in the hand or in t'ne pocket, or secured to the person 'of a conductor, and which presents an eiicient and unalterable means lof registering ey'eryl halt' fareand every whole frcjpaid, and which, in -its most complete form, also contains a convenient receptacle for tickets.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of lmy combined double register nnd'ticket-cuse.
Figure 2 is a vertical section thereof. I
Figure 3 Ais a side elevation, a portion of the external ease being removed.
'.llhe case, shell, or box, A, may be of .sheet metal, leather, vuleanite, wood, or other convenient material. B and C are indexngers, whose shafts b c are so connected, by means'of pinion D and cog-wheel E, as to Acause the finger B to make twenty revolutions while the finger' C is making one revolution. Accompanying each finger is a dial, suitably divided and numbered. 'lhe shaft IJ has a ri. Chet-wheel, F, which, being pushed or rotated thedistance of a tooth by the impact of one of two teeth, G, which project from a knob, H, the finger I5 is thereby advanced 'ou its dial the equivalent of a'unit, and the finger C the twentieth portion thereof. The same movement of the knob causes the opposite tooth, G', to act on a bell-crank, I, having a clapper, J, which, on its release from the tooth G-', is caused, by the spring K, to strike a bell, L, and thereby give notice to the bystanders of the proper movement having been made. A glass pane, (see dotted lines Z,) while allowing inspection of the dials, secures them from being'tampcrcd with.
In order to enable the registering of half fares, I provide n second knob, M, from which projects a springarm, N, whose obliqueiy-tipped finger, O, is capable of being engaged successively in the several apertures 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8, affording a record of juvenile passengers, which may be transferred to the dials aforesaid, when opportunity occurs, if desired.
The half-fare mechanism just described may be placed upon a slide, P, which serves to partially or wholly close at will a pocket, Q, for tickets, or it may, if preferred, be fixedunderneath the glass, the same as the other dials.
I claim herein as new, and of my invention- 1. The actuating-knob H und teeth G G', in the described combination, with the recording and strikingdevices, substantially as set forth.
2. In the described combination, the half-fare rcgisterslide P and ticket-receptacle or pocket Q, upon or within a conductors register, substantially as described, I
3. The double register for recording full and half fares, constructed and adapted to operate substantially n the manner set forth.
In testimony of which invention, I hereunto s'et my hand.
W. C. McGI-LL.
