To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRY ERNEST J AMES MORGAN, residing at Midland Junction, Western Australia, Commonwealth of Australia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tobacco-Pipes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention of an improved tobacco-pipe has for its object a pipe which is easily and thoroughly cleansed, so that a cool smoke will be obtained by its use.

The invention essentially consists in an interior replaceable tube which is inserted in the stem of the pipe, such tube being placed in position from the bowl end of the pipe. The bowl end of such tube is enlarged, so that the tube is to such extent of a taper and self-tightening or self-loosening nature as may be required by circumstances. The bowl of the pipe is in communication with such inner and telescopic tube. The mouthpiece end of such tube is formed with a screw or taper formation, so as to allow the mouthpiece to be connected to same, or such tube may be continued and proceed into the mouthpiece for the full length of such mouthpiece, in which case a thread or taper formation is formed midway on the tube for attachment of the mouthpiece.

The invention will now be explained by the aidof the attached drawings.

In such drawings, Figure 1 is a side sectional View of my invention and showing the replaceable inner tube as proceeding through the pipe-stem and continuing the full length of the mouthpiece of the pipe. Fig. 2 is a similar view, but showing the replaceable tube as in the pipe-stem only and projecting sufiicientl y far for its attachment to the mouthp1ece.

In the figures, A denotes the bowl, B the stem, and C the mouthpiece, of the pipe, respectively.

Referring to Fig. 1, the interior replaceable tube D is placed, as shown, in the stem B and proceeds into the mouthpiece (l for the full length of the latter. The tube is formed with a taper enlargement formation, as D, in order to give a self-tightening or self-loosening action to such tube, as above mentioned. Such enlargement fits into a corresponding recess formed in the bowl A of the pipe, as shown. The portion D of the tube which proceeds into the mouthpiece is preferably formed of a lesser diameter to that of the rest of the tube, the mouthpiece being connected midway on the tube by means of the screwthreaded formation, as D or such formation may obviously be made taperwise.

The bowl of the pipe communicates with the interior of the tube D by means of the passage-way D3 Referring now to the alternate construction, as shown in Fig. 2, in which the'tube, as E, does not extend beyond the stem B except for the purpose of attachment to the mouthpiece, this tube E is formed with a passage-way E and taper enlargement, as E of similar construction to that of the tube D, as shown in Fig. 1. The mouthpiece O is attached to such tube E by means of the threaded or taper projection, as E", it being obvious that such mouthpiece may be attached by thread or taper spigot.

The mode of using my invention is chiefly as follows: The replaceable tube, as D or E, is inserted into the stem B from the bowl end of the pipe, and the mouthpiece C is screwed on or attached thereto by the formation D or E as shown, so causing such tube to be secured and drawn well home, its taper formation D or E facilitating such result. hen it is desired to remove such tube for cleansing purposes, the mouthpiece C is partially screwed off and then a slight push or impluse given to the tube, so causing it to become loosened. The mouthpiece is now totally screwed off, so allowing a complete and easy withdrawal of the tube to take place. Such tube is thereupon cleansed and replaced in its position within the pipe-stem, being finally screwed or secured up by the mouthpiece.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. Atobacco-pipe having a bowl and a hollow stem integral therewith, said bowl having a tapering opening in line with the stem; in combination with a tube in the stem having a passage-way and a tapering solid end to fit the tapering opening in the bowl, and a mouthpiece screwed on the tube abutting against the end of the stem to draw the solid end of the tube into position, said passage-Way registering with the bottom of the bowl and the tube capable of longitudinal adjustment to compensate for wear without destroying the register of the passage-Way with the bowl.

2. A tobacco-pipe having a bowl and a hollow stem integral therewith, said bowl having a tapering opening in line with the stem; in combination with a tube in the stem having a passage-Way and a tapering solid end to fit the tapering opening in the bowl, and a mouth- I piece screwed on the end of the tube abutting against the end of the stem to draw the solid end of the tube into position, said passageway registering with the bottom of the bowl and the tube capable of longitudinal adjustment to compensate for Wear without destroying the register of the passage-Way with the bow In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two Witnesses.
