@eine tates @anni @Hirn Letters Patent No. 76,440, [lated April 7, ISGS.
IMIJROVEMENT IN PRINTERS FURNITURE.
'Lille' Schnur ninna to' in tlgrsc iitnfs hnelt :un linking pint .of tigo simi.
TO ALL WIIOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, FnAXe-Isonn Tnifzononr Manin Anci-1 GUYON, of Saint Breux, in the Department of Ctes du Nord, in the Empire of France, have invented a. certain new and useful Ii'nproveinent in Printers Furniture, which I term a Typographie Fixiform; and I do herehy decla-re that the following is a full and exact description thereof.
I will first describe what I consider the best means of carrying ont my invention, and will afterwards 'designate the point-s which I believe to be new. The accompanying drawings forni u. part ot' this specification.
Figure 1 is a. plan view of the bed of e printingpress, with my iixiform in position, holding a chase in place on the bed.
Figure 2 represents the common plan.
Figure 3 represents my ixiform on a larger seule, with its parts separated one from the other;
Figure 4: represents the parts slightly modified.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in all the figures. Y
My invention is adapted to take the place el' much of the cumbrous furniture now used, and tosave much time and expense. i v
I use the term furniture," as it is commonly used in the priiiting trade, to mean the aggregate of the various pieces of wood or metal, quoins, the., used to till spaces vcit-her inside or outside ot' the chase. My invention is intended more particularly for filling the space outside of the chase, or, in other words, l'er holding the chase in place on the hed.
A B C Dis the hed of the printing-press. rIhe side .f B is that against which the chase L c nl is fitted. The side C D is that which serves as a basis for the furniture to hold the chase in place.
I take the piece K Ii', and insert the two tenons 7c e in two holes adapted to receive them in the piece E. I next take the piece J, and, {indi-ng by trial the p 'oper notches jj, in which to insert the head k ot' the other part, tit them together as shown in iig. I. Now, with a proper wrench or spanncr, I turn the screw V, and press it against the inner face ofthe piece E, so as to force the pieces .I K away from the piece E, and to press tightly and firmly against the chase (L b e (Z. When this is eil'eeted, the whole is left firmly secured, and the press may be operated as usual.
To release the chase, it is necessary simply to slnclien the screw V, and remove the pztrts J K K', ns will be obvious.
I do not confine myself to Xing the spurs or tenons on the part Ii. Tlieyinay be used on the part I, and the screw being there also, the portion ofthe parts J Ii, and consequently ef the entire device, may he reversed, and still the principle of my inventionwill be involved. I can operate with some success with various inediti cations. l
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letterslatent, is as follows: y
1. I claim the part K VK', and the part Jj, arranged to opernte relatively to cach other and to the bed nl" a printing-press, as and for the purpose herein specified.
2. I claim the tenons orspurs 7c lr, und screw I", in combination with the readily-adjustalnle frame K K', Jj, or its equivalent, the several parts being all arranged fer' joint-eperntiei'i, as and for the purpose herein specified.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my name in presence of two subscrihnjr witnesses.
GI'YON FRANCILZQUE.v
