Description

PATENTED JULY 5, 1904.
R. S. HAMILTON.
FASTENER.
APPLIOATION FILED rm. 3, 1904.
N0 MODEL.
WI ZNE'HEE'EJ assisted by pressure on the projecting arm t of the fastening-arm. The fastener may be instantly released from the fabric by moving the fastening-arm outward into the position as shown in broken lines in Fig. 4.
The fastener when once secured to the fabric is practically locked and cannot be released except by-moving the fastening-arm outward against the tension of the coiled spring d.
An upward movement of the fastener by accident or other means would tend to'force the teeth I) b on the fastening-lever more firmly into the fabric.
The semicircular ends of the fastening-arm being pivoted ofi center act as cams to pinch the fabric between the back of the fastener and the fastening-arm. It is evident that the teeth on the fastening-arm could be modified or dispensed with and a smooth edge used on the cam ends of the fastening-arm without materially affecting the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a fastener, a frame stamped from sheet metal and bent substantially U-shaped, a fastening arm stamped from sheet metal andbent to form two adjacent semicircular ends pivotally secured off center in the frame, and a coiled spring adapted to exert a spring tension on the fastening-arm, as described.
2.. In a fastener, a frame stamped from sheet metal and bent substantially U-shaped to form the front and back of the fastener, there being an opening in the front, bearings and an eye formed on the front and an eye formed on the back of said U-shaped frame, a fastening-arm stamped from sheet metal and bent to form two adjacent semicircular ends with off-center pivot-holes, a pivot-pin, and a coiled spring adapted to exert a spring tension on the fastening-arm, as described.
3 In a fastener, the combination of the frame a having the front a, the backa there being an opening a in the front, the bearings a a on the sides, and an eye a on the front and an eye a on the back, and the edge a forming a stop, all formed integral with the frame, the fastening-arm 6 having the semicircular ends 6 b with the teeth b 6 the olfcenter pivot-holes If and the hole I), the projecting arm 1/, the pivot-pin 0, and the coiled
