ENVELOP- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 763,944, dated June 28, 1904.

To It w/wm it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST Z. WANOUS, of Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelops, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates generally to envelops, and particularly to safety-envelops, my purpose being the production of an envelop which cannot be steamed or otherwise opened and resealed.
To this end myimprovements consist in so configuring, folding, and sealing my envelops that it is practically impossible to open and rescal them. Thus they are adapted for use in the transportation of diplomatic or state papers and the like.
In the drawings referred to, Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved envelop as blanked out and gummed. Fig. 2 is the same after the first folding and sealing. Fig. 3 is the same after the second folding and sealing. Fig. A is the same after the third folding and scaling; Fig. 5, the same after the fourth folding and sealing, which finishes it; and Fig. 6, the same after it has received its contents and is finally sealed.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The first operation in the construction of my envelop consists in blanking it out and gumming the several portions, as shown in Fig. 1, which may be done at one and the same time and by the same device, and the second process consists in moistening, folding, and sealing the several flaps, which may also be done at one and the same time and by the same deviee,thus completing my envelop and adapting it to receive its contents and for final sealing. In the first operation (blanking) I employ a suitable die for fashioning my blank A in a rectangular form, as shown in Fig. 1, having its four corners cut away, as shown by (Z, thus forming two end flaps Z, and for Serial No. 199,476. (No model.)

In the second operation (folding and sealing) I employ a suitable device, through the operation of which the oppositely-arranged flaps (Z are laid across the blank portion A over and upon each other and their overlapping ends sealed, as shown in Fig. 2. Next the oppositely-arranged fiaps e are laid across the blank portion A over and upon each other and their overlapping edges sealed, as shown in Fig. 3. Next one of the end flaps Z) is laid over and upon the folded and sealed flaps (Z and c and across a portion of the blank A and sealed, as shown in Fig. 4. Next one pair of the oppositely-arranged flaps f is laid across the folded and sealed end flap Z) and its overlapping ends sealed, as shown in Fig. 5, which lastnamed operation completes my envelop, fitting it to receive its contents.
In use letters, papers, and the like are inserted in the usual manner that is to say, are slid into the pocket formed by the firstnamed folded and sealed flap (Z, the secondnamed folded and sealed flap-c, and the thirdnamed folded and sealed flap 7). After ithas received its contents my envelop is closed by folding the remaining end flap Z) over and upon the first-named folded and sealed flaps (Z and the second-named folded and sealed flap 0 and by laying the remaining pair of oppositely arranged flaps f across the lastnamed end fiap Z) over and upon each otherand sealing their overlapping ends, as shown in Fig. 6.
l/Vhat I claim as new is- In a safety-envelop, the body portion, end flaps and side flaps, said end flaps having respectively two gummed portions lying transversely to the said body portion, and said side flaps being gummed upon their respective overlapping portions; the outer pairs of the said side flaps being first laid across the said body portions and having their gummed overlapping ends sealed together; the middle pairs of the said side flaps being then laid across sealed to the said folded and sealed end flap, the saidlboldy portion anld {their overlapping substantially as shown and described. gumrnec ec ges being sea ec together; one of r r 1 said end flaps being then folded upon and ERNESr 5 sealed to the said overlaid and sealed side In presence of flaps, and one pair of the remaining side flaps H.
