PATENT ()FFICE.
JAMES A. WALSH, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
BLOTTER-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 763,646, dated June 28, 1904.
Application filed October 13, 1902. Serial No. 127,000. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs A. WALsH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blotter-Holders, of which the following is a Specification. V
The object of my invention is to provide a holder or pad having means by which a blotter-sheet may be very easily and quickly attached to one face thereof, so as to form a rigid blotting instrument easily handled.
The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention.
Figure 1 is an inverted perspective view. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the blotter-holder in position for use.
In the drawings, 5 indicates the main body, which may be formed of a block of wood or any suitable material, having a suitable knob 5 attached thereto, the blotter-receiving face 6 being of any desired form, either flat or cylindrical. At each end body 5 is provided with a somewhat-rounded face 7, which is subtantially concentric with a pivotal aXis 8, said face 7 extending up to a lip 9, which is extended from the end ofthe body substantially in the plane of the upper face thereof, so as to form a guard to hide the fastened ends of the blotter. Pivoted in suitable openings formed at the pivotal axis 8 are the ends of a U-shaped clip, the arms 10 10 of which are of a length but a trifle greater than the distance from the pivotal axis to the face 7 so that the base 11 of the clip lies parallel with the said face and at a distance therefrom somewhat less than the normal thickness of the blottersheet 12.
In operation the two clips are thrown into the position indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1 and the blotter-sheet l2 drawn thereunder over the face 7 of the body 5, with the ends of the sheet projecting beyond the said faces. The clips are then thrown down into the position shown in full lines, the bases 11 of the clips engaging the blotter-sheet and by reason of their nearness to the faces 7 compressing the sheet against the faces 7 and holding the sheet snugly in position. By this mean s'a very efficient and convenient blotterholder may be manufactured very cheaply.
The blotter-attaching means is such as not to interfere with the blotting-surface of the blotter.
I claim as my invention 1. A blotter-holder consisting'of a main body, a fastening-clip pivotally secured to each end, and an end clamping-face 7 formed at each end of the main body substantially concentric with the axis of the adjacent clip between the upper and lower faces of the body, for the purpose described.
2. A blotter-holder consisting of a main body, a fastening-clip pivotally secured to each end, an end cl amping-face 7 formed at each end of the main body substantially concentric with the axis of the adjacent clip between the upper and lower faces of the body, and a lip projected from the upper face of the body and overhanging the clamping-face 7 In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, at Indianapolis, Indiana, this 11th day of October, A. D. 1902.
