Description

'jgixtitsh faire etteut @fitta Letters Patent No. 76,353, dated April 7, 1868.
ANKLEBRACB.
dille ,tlgehule rserrrrn in tlgtse tettm ateut mit mating part of tlge same.
TO ALL. WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL B. SHERER, of Aurora, in the county of Kane, and in the State of Illinois, have invented an Improved Support for the Ankle while skating or playing base-ball; and do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the, accompanying draw-V ings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents the supporter unstrappe'd and spread out.
Figure 2 represents the supporter fastened tothe ankle'.
The' nature of this invention consists in a support for the ankle, designed more especially for the use of skaters, although it can'be used with equal advantage hy hase-ball players, which, while it 'strengthens and supports the ankle, does notconline the foot. l
A A represent the supporter, made of leather or other flexible material, provided with straps B B and lacing C, foradjusting and fastening it to the ankle. D represents a strap fastened to one side of the supporter, at E, passing under the hollow of the foot, and buckled to the other side at F,for the purpose of holding it in place.
The supporter is worn with points drawn down nearly to the sole of the boot, and fastened by the strap D, and adjusted to the ankle by the lacing C in front, and straps B B behind.
Ihe advantages claimed for this improvement over all others in use are, that while furnishing a perfect support to the ankle, it leaves the foot free to act in a natural manner, and, boing complete in itself, can be adjusted at home, and worn to and from the'ice without inconvenience, and can be used with any skates.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to.secure by Letters Patent, is-
The supporter A, in combination with thezstraps B and D, and lacingO, or their. equivalent, for the purpose and substantially as herein specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 29th day of' Fcbruary,.p`l868.
' SAMUEL B.' SHERER.
