NON-'REFILLABLE BOTTLE SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 762,992, dated June 21, 1904.

To (MZ whom, it may concern.:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. FILBRUN, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles;and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, refer-V ence beinghad to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in non-relillable bottles and possesses the novel and advantageous features hereinafter described and claimed.
Preceding a detail description of the invention referenceis made to the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is an elevation of a bottle with the upper portion thereof broken away to disclose the nonreiillable attachment. Fig. 2 is a cross-section through the neck on the line al a; of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a similar'section on the line 1/ 1/ of Fig. 1. Fig'. 4 is a perspective view of the neck-cup detached from the bottle. Fig. 5 is adetail view of the thimble detached from the neck-cup.
In a detail description of the invention similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts.
The device for preventing the refilling of a bottle after the latter has been emptied of its contents is showu in Figs. 4 and 5 in detail, and these devices are placed within the neck l of the bottle. As indicated in Fig. 1, the said devices are supported in the neck vof the bottle some distance from the mouth of said bottle. The neck of the bottle is of the usual tapering form in "order that there may be a suitable space intervening between the interior of the neck and the device placed therein. rl-`hese devices consist of a neck-cup 2, which is oblong in shape and of uniform diameter and which has a rim 3,`by means of which the cup is supported in the neckof the bottle. The rim 3 is joined to the cup by bars 4, which provide intervening spaces 5, through which the liquid in the bottle enters the cup from the surrounding sides in the act of pouring the liquid from the bottle. It will be seen from Fig. 4 that a substantial portion of the sides of thecup 2 is cut or removed in order that suitable openings may be provided for a free discharge of the contents of the bottle. Within this cup there is placed a thimble 6, which has an openingfrom end to end and is supported within the cup in such a manner that the liquid entering said eup may find an exit from the bottom and through the opening in said thimble. The said thimble is supported at the rim 3 of the cup by means of the rim 7 of said thimble engaging with the inner surface of the rim of the cup, these parts being suitably tapered to prevent the thimble fromfalling to the bottom of the cup.
From the construction thus described it will be seen that in emptying they bottle of its contents the liquid is unobstructed and is permitted to enter the cup through the openings or spaces 5 in the sides thereof and tothen pass through the thimble 6 and out of the bottle. The refilling of the bottle is prevented, owing to the air-pressure within the bottle forming a seal in the neck of said bottle, which prevents the liquid from passing out of the cup 2.
Having described my invention, I claim- In a device for. preventing the refilling of bottles, the combination with a bottle-neck which tapers slightly from its mouth downward, of an oblong cup of uniform diameter presence of two witnesses.
