PORTABLE SCAFFOLD.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 762,3(24, dated June 14, 1904.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WADE C. GoHEEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Leatherwood, in the county of Clarion and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Portable Scaffolds, of which improvement the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in scaffold-supports, and has for its object to provide means which may be readily attached to the ordinary ladder in such a manner as to form a support fora platform.

Another object of my invention is to provide a scaffold-support which may be adjusted to any desired height on the wall of the building and one which may be adjusted to the angle of the wall against which the ladder is resting.

A further object of the invention is to provide a scaffold-support which will be extremely simple in construction, strong and durable, and highly eflicient when used.

Briefly described, the invention comprises a chain which is attached to an ordinary ladder at any desired height and on the end of the chain is secured by a hook a lateral brace, the other end of which engages the round of the ladder and securely holds the same so a board or platform could be supported thereon and used by the workman With considerable safety.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.

In describing the invention in detail referonce is bad to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a ladder, showing one of the supports in position thereon. To put my invention into practice, I employ an ordinary chain 1, which has a hook on its one end, as indicated at 2, this hook 2 being adapted to engage one of the rounds of the ladder 3, while the other end of the chain 1 supports the braces 4. These braces 4 comprise the side arms 5, which meet and are formed integral, as at 6, this end'of the brace forming a hook 7 which engages the chain 1 in either of the links that are in alinoment with the round of the ladder on which the device is to rest. These side arms 5 carry the grooves 8 on their upper edge, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, and adapted to engage in these grooves are the links 9, which support the adjustable holding-clips 10, saidclips being slotted, as indicated at 11, to receive the round 12 of the ladder. Each one of the said arms are similarly constructed, whereby a support is provided which will readily support the platform 14 in such a manner as the same will be held safely in any desired position.

It will be seen that the platform may be adjusted to any position upon any of the rounds of the ladders and at any desired height upon the wall to which the scaffold is placed. It will also be obvious that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A brace comprising a pair of arms secured together at one end and provided with a hook adjacent thereto, the opposite ends of said arms having their upper edges notched, clips engaging the under faces of said arms, said clips having their under faces notched, and a securing means engaging said clips and the notches of said arms.
