Description

\ jaws and two movable jawsthe two stationw UNITED I STATES Patented June '7, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
WRENCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Le ers P n N0- 761,996, dated June '7, 1904.
Application filed .pril 19,1904. Serial No. 203,872- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
ject of the King of Belgium, residing at Turtlecreek, in the countyof Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wrenches, of which the following is a specification; reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has relation to monkey wrenches, and has for its object the provision of a wrench of novel form and construction having double jaws that is, two stationary tion, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure 1 is a side elevation ot a wrench embodying my improvements. i Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same.-Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig.4 is a perspective view of a part of the shank with the fixed and movable jaws removed therefrom. Fig. 5 is an edge view of the movable jaws..
Fig. 6 isa perspectiveview of the fixed jaws removed from the shank, and Fig. 7 is a transverse sectional view on the line 00 m of Fig. 1
The fixed jaws 1 2 are composed of'a single piece of metal, which is formed with grooves 3 3, that receive the upper ends of the square bars 4 4, four in number, which constitute the shank of the wrench, and the jaws 1 2 are secured to the bars by rivets 5 5 after the movable jaws have been placed in position, aswill be presently described. The bars 4 4 7 merge near their lower ends, forming two plates 6 6, and these plates merge into the section 7, that terminates in a tang 8, which passes through the handle9. The two slidpoint to which pressed outwardly by a spring 17, secured at Be it known that I, VITAL QUENoN, a sub- Y and the rack-bar are inserted in position between the bars 4 4, and the fixed jaws are then placed in position between the bars 4 4 and the rivets 5 5 inserted to hold the fixed jaws in position. The movable jaws can be adjusted to any position merely by'pressingthe lower end of the lever 15, which is indented and roughened, asshown at 19, and then sliding. the movable jaws up or down to the desired position and then releasing the lever- 15,
the upper end of which will be impelled inwardly by the spring 17, thereby causing the teeth 14 on the lever to engage the teeth 13 of the rack-bar 12.
Having described my invention, I claim 1. In a monkey-wrench, the combination with a'shank composed of four bars, of fixed jaws having grooves adapted to receive said.
bars, movable jaws carried on a rack-bar, said rack-bar being slidably mounted between said bars, 7 and apivoted lever formed with teeth and adapted to engage said rack-bar.
2. In a monkey-wrench, the combination of a shank composed of four parallel bars, a fixed fitting between said bars and having a rack on "one side, and a pivoted lever adap'ted'to ,en-
tween' two of said bars, and a lever pivotally arranged between two of the bars and having teeth adapted to engage the teeth on said rack- I 1 v V i In testimony whereof I alfix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
