UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANZ A. HINSKY, OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
I CUSPIDOR.
.QPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 761,227, dated May 31, 1904.
Application filed August 29, 1903.
To alZ whom it may concern:
to be set therein and removed therefrom and which is designed to be removed and destroyed whenever it is desired to clean the cuspidor.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of my improved-cuspidor, and Fig. 2 a central vertical section thereof.
In the practice of my invention I provide a cuspidor which is composed of two parts an outer or base portion a, which is bowlshaped in form, and an inner removable and destructible portion 6, which is set thereinto when in use, as shown in Fig. 2. The part a is composed of wood, metal, or any other suitable material, and the part 6 comprises two separate members 6 and 6 each of which is hollow and conical in form, and said members are secured together atd in any suitable or desirable way The inember b of the part b is closed at the bottom and provided with a pin 0, which fits in a corresponding recess d in the bottom of the part a, and in the form of construction shown the bottom portion of the member 6 consists of a dish- .shaped piece 6, which is secured in said memof the member Z2 which is directed downwardly, is cut away to form an opening f, and
when the members 6 and 6 are secured to- Serial No. 171,301. (No model.)
gether in the position shown a chamber 9 is formed in the bottom of the member 6 into which the apex of the member 6 projects. The top portion of the member fits within the top portion of the part a of the base portion of the cuspidor, while the top portion of the member 6 projects so as to form a rim or flange 2'. Both members or portions of the part 1), including members 6 and 6 are preferably composed of paper so treated as to be impervious to moisture; but any suitable cheap and destructible material may be employed in the construction of these parts or members.
It will be understood that part 6, including the members 6 and 6 which are secured together, may be removed from the base portion a whenever desired, and the device is used in the usual manner; and whenever it becomes necessary to empty the cuspidor or clean it the part I) is taken out and destroyed or thrown away, and a new and similar part is placed in the base portion a, and the cuspidor is again ready for use.
The pin 0, which is secured to the member 5 of the part 6', holds the part b in proper position within the base portion and prevents it sliding or moving laterally therein, and if by accident the cuspidor should be upset and the part 6 become detached the contents of the chamber g would remain therein, the position of the member 6 and the form thereof serving to close said chamber and to prevent the contents from being spilled out.
The bottom of the member 6 may be formed in any desired manner, all that is necessary being to secure thereto or connect therewith the pin 0; but I prefer to use the plate a of material which would not be affected if a lighted match should be dropped into the cuspidor.
Having fully describedmy invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A cuspidor, comprising a base or bottom part, and a removable part set thereinto and composed of destructible material and consisting of two inverted conical members and one of which is set into the other and secured thereto, the apex of the inner conical memher being smaller than the apex of the outer conical member whereby the shape of said member forms a chamber in the bottom por- 5 tion of the outer conical member, the apex of the inner conical member being opened and the apex of the outer-conical member being closed and provided With an attaching device whereby it is detachahly connected with the 10 bottom of the bowl-shaped base, the inner conical member being also provided with a base, flange 0r rim, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention 1 have signed my name, in pres- I5 ence of the subscribing Witnesses, this 17th day of August, 1903.
