FRONT FOR OVENS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 760,945, dated May 24, 1904. Application filed April 25, 1903. Serial No. 154,227. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANCIS J. ALBRECHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fronts for Ovens, of which improvement the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in fronts for ovens, and

to provide a front for ovens formed on which is a suitable hood for conducting the gases or fumes generated within said oven to be caught and conducted to any suitable outlet and also to provide a sight in said front whereby the conditions existing within said oven may be determined.

In describing the invention'in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,and wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout both views, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved oven-front. Figure 2 is a sectional elevation of the same.

The reference-numeral 1 indicates the frame or body portion of the front, an inclined sill 2 being. formed in the same, and the top 3, having a raised portion 4:, in which is mounted a slide 5, one end of which has an aperture formed therein, and a piece of mica 6 is placed over the same. A hood 7 is mounted'on the forward end of the frame slightly above the opening which is formed for the entrance to the oven, and a door 8, which is connected to the rod 9, is mounted in back of said opening and adapted to close the same, and when in closed position said door rests against the ledges 1O 10 formed on the sides of the openmg. 1

The rod 9 has secured to either end the arm l 0,which is counterweighted, and secured to said arm is an operating-lever 11, which rests in a bracket 12 and has an extension 13, which is adapted to hold the same in place. When the door is in closed position, as shown in Fig. 2, the counterweighted lever will be at a point somewhat past a vertical center, thereby securely holding the door closed; but when the operating-levers 11 are actuated the door may be thrown to its open position, such as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2, when the said lever will hold the door open. To ascertain the conditions within the oven, a slide 5 is moved to such aposition that the aperture in said slide will be over the opening in the cas ing, thereby permitting a person to see the inside of the oven.

It will be noted that various slight changes may bemade in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I 1. In a device of the type set forth, the combination with aframe, an inclined sill formed in the same, a top having a raised portion thereon, a slide having a transparent portion mounted in said raised portion, and adoor having counterweights, and means secured thereto adapted to hold the door open and closed.

2. In combination with a frame of an ovenfront, a top having a raised portion thereon, a slide having a transparent portion mounted in the raised portion, an inclined sill formed in the frame, a rod extending laterally with respect to the frame, a door secured thereon, upwardly-extending, counterweighted arms secured to said rod, and operating-levers secured to said arms, substantially as described.
