vAPonlzlNG. APPARATUS'.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 760,784, dated May 24, 1904. Application filed November 27,l903f Serial No. 182,900. (No model.)
To all whom, t may concern.'
Be it known that LEUGENE FOURNIER, a citizen of the Republic of France, and a resident of Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Liquidl.VaporizingApparatus, of which the following Y 'is aspecification.
This invention relates to an apparatus for the instantaneous evaporation of liquids, and is particularly suitable for sanitary and disinfecting purposes. It is constructed in such manner that the evaporation takes place without the vapors produced being l in any way modified or decomposed or their nature altered and at a very small cost.
An apparatus according to this invention is illustrated, by wayr of example,in the accompanying drawing, in which it is shown in vertical section. v
The apparatus is mainly constituted by a vaporiZer-tube a in the shape of a coil of a truncated-cone shape, arranged so as to be completely protected from contact with the atmospheric air in a casing also havingl the shape of a truncated cone and constituted by two walls c d, arranged concentrically one within the other. The inner wall cisdirectly heated by means of any suitable gas, petroleum, alcohol, or other burner. and is provided on its inner face (as regards the casing 'w ith a spiral rib e, extending round the said wall and constituting a channel in which are located the corl responding windings ofthe coil a, which are thus separated from each other by the rib e. This rib e being in contact with the corresponding portions of the coil a, transmits to it by conductivity the heat supplied to the wall c by the heating apparatus used.
In order to avoid any oxidizing of the metal constituting the coil a, the latter is completely protected from contact with the atmospheric air by the casing t, which forthat purpose is iilled with very iine sand or any other suitable maserial, which fills in all the spaces round the co1 a.
The inner face of the outer wall d is preferably provided with asbestos packing f to prevent waste of heat.
The tube c is provided with a flange g, yto
which .are secured feet L of suitable height supporting the whole of the apparatus at adesired level above the heating apparatus, which should be placed in such way as to direct the lwhole of the heat to the center of the trunf cated-cone chimney formed by the wall c and to cause it to act directly on the said wall, so as to raise its temperature to and maintain it at the desired heat. The truncated-cone shape given to the apparatus has for its object to concentrate the heat to a sufficient extent before allowing the hot gases to escape at the top.
The outer wall or tube d is providedy at the bottom with a correspondingiiange z', arranged outside and applied and secured by means of bolts to the flange of the wall c, constituting the shoulder or base of the apparatus.
' The casing b is closed at the top by acover j, applied to the corresponding ends of the walls c and d, the latter being provided with an outside flange 7c, to which the cover is secured by means of bolts. The cover is pro-l vided in the center with a branch Z, forming an outletfor the hot combustion-gases, and a bend m for giving a suitable direction to the gases can be connected to the said branch.
The liquid to be evaporated is preferably introduced through the lower end of the coil a, which for that purpose is extended outside the apparatus by means of a pipe n, to which is connected the supply-pipe for the liquid to be evaporated. A The escape of the vapors takes place at the top of the coil a, which is prolonged to that end outside the apparatus at 0, at which place the outlet-pipe for distributing the-vapor is connected to it.
The working of the apparatus is too simple to require any special description, and it is suiiicient to mention -that the apparatus having been previously heatedY to the desired temperature this temperature is maintained during the time that the liquid is introduced into the coil a under the desired pressure. The
formed by the spiral rib an outlet at the top for conveying away the products of combustion, and an inlet branch for the introduction ofthe liquid to be Vaporized and a vapor-outlet branch substantially as described.
In testimony whereof 1 have signed my naine to this specification in the presence ot' two subscribing witnesses.
