PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS J. NARDI, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
mE-CHANIGAL 'Tow-f.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 760,642, dated May 24, 1904.
Application filed. January 2,l 1903.
T0 1f/ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that-I, THoMAsJ. NARDI, a citizen of the United States, and a resident ofl Worcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented' certain new and useful Improvements in Mechanical Toys, of whichthe following is a specification.
My invention relates to mechanical toys;A and it consists in the improved construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter de scribed, and pointe'd out in the appended claims.
The invention is susceptible of various eml tion disclosed in Fig. 1, the section being taken in the plane indicated by the broken line 2 2.
lWithin the casing is a weight 2 of general triangular shape, having arounded side 3 and a lower side 4. From the vertical side 5 of the weight projects a lug 6, which enters one end of a closely-coiled spring 7, the opposite end of the said spring being secured in any suitable manner to the adjacent peripheral portion of the casing. To the outer side of the front of thecasing is pivotally secured a part 8 of a toy ligure, (in this instance a leg,) and the remainder of the gure is painted on the y surface of the casing. From the upper end of the leg 8 projects a pin 9, adapted to be struck by the beveledunder side of the Weight. As shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1, two human ligures are delineated upon the outer face of the casing, one in a stooping position and the other, of which the movable leg is a part,
in a kicking attitude, the vibration of the leg through the medium of the weight giving the amusing result ofthe rear igure kicking the forward one. y
By employing a circular casing ythe toy mayV be rolled along thefloor or other suitable surface, with the result that the weight will visegriai No. ismva (No man1.)
movement of .the pivoted external member each time'the lign-res delineations are brought into a position wherein the ludicrous repre' `sentation can be appreciated.
It will be seen that the diameter of the coiled spring is such that the thickness of theweight l2 to provide a lug 6 for entering the end of the spring will `be such that the front and rear sides'of said weight lie closely parallel to the front and rear walls of the casing.
The advantage of these features all such variations or'modifications of the de- 'l j vice as may fall within the terms and scope of the invention.
I claim--A j v 1. A mechanical toy, comprising a casing having a portion of a toyiigure delineated on its outer surface, a pivoted part or element so attached to the casing as to form a part of the figure, and having a pin projecting therefrom, and a movable spring-controlled weight adapted to strike said pin to vibrate the pivoted part or element.
2. The combination' with a hollow casing,
This is, obviously similarly true of both the lug 'and the spring. are thatthe parts are positively guided in their movementsand any tendency of such tition of the amusing eect occasioned by the j of a weight supported therein, a spring attached at one endto the weight and at its opposite end to the casing, a device pivotally secured to the outer face of the casing and forme ing a part of a toy iigure, and a pin projectingv therefrom to be struck bythe under side of the weight.
Signed at Worcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, this 18th day of December, A. D. 1902.
THOMAS J. NARDI.
