V 4 r i In the embodiment of my invention I construct the table-frame in three sections. The end sections are indicated at 1 and the intermediate section at 2. Each of the end sections comprises an outer bar 3, an inner bar 4, and a pair of end bars 5, properly secured together. Theintermediate section comprises a pair of parallel side bars 6 and a pair of end bars 7 To the ends of the intermediate section are secured side boards 8, which bear against the sides of the end sections 1 and are slidably related thereto, so that when the end section to enable the leaves to be placed between them the joints or open spaces between the end sections and the intermediate section are covered by the said side boards. The side-boards 8, which cover the spaces between the end and intermediate sections, also serve to support the leaves which may be placed between the said sections, as will be understood. To support the intermediate portions of the said leaves and to secure the requisite rigidity between the sections when the table is extended, I provide slide-irons 26 of suitable length and of suitable size and shape cross-sectionally, the end portions of which operate in guides 27, which are secured.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, operation, and advantages of my invention will be readily apparent, it is thought, without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is

1. A table of the class described, having a plurality of relativelyadj ustahle sect-ions, lockrods fixed to one section and slidingly engaging the other sections, lock plates pivotally mounted on the slidable sections, and having openings to frictionally engage the lock-rods when said plates are in normal position, and means for moving the plates to cause the openings to clear the lock-rods.

2. A table of the class described, having a plurality of relatively ad j ustable sections, lockrods fixed to one section and slidingly engaging the other sections, lock plates pivotally mounted on the slidable sections and having openings to frictionally engage the lock-rods when said plates are in normal position,springs to move said lock-plates to engaging position, and means to move the plates in position to cause their openings to clear the lock-rods.

3. A table of the class described, having a pluralityof relatively adj ustable sections, locl rods attached to one section and slidably connected to another, pivotally-mountcd lock devices to engage said lock-rods to lock the sections when adjusted, springs to normally ongage said lock devices frictionally with the lock-rods, and means to disengage said lock devices from the lock-rods.

4. In a table of the class described, the combination of end sections and an intermediate section, lock-rods attached to the intermediate section and slidinglyconnected to the end sections, pivotally-mounted lock-plates carried by the end sections and having openings to frictionally engage the lock-rods, springs coacting with the lock-plates to engage the latter with the lock-rods, and means to turn the lock plates against the tension of the springs to the position required to disengage the lock-rods.
