'ro ALL WHOM Ir MAY. oo'NeIIItN: I
Be. it known that I, SIMON B. PARKER, of Springfield, in the county of Hampden, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Device for the Purpose of FasteningShoe-Strings or Laeings; and I do hereby decitre that the same is fully described and' Arepresented in the following specifications and the accanipenying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a) side view of the shoe, with a. fastener at the eyelet. Figure 2 is a side view, `showing the fastener ot of the shoe, but with prong bent nt one end, and cyelet inserted in` hole at' the other, und shoe-string fast. Figure 3 is a view o't the `bottom section with prong straight. Fgnre4 is n view of top section or lever. p p Figure 5 is n side view-of jtop section or lever, showing a. angestruek froxnzthe' plete.. Eignre- 6 is u view of the top and bottom sectionsrrivcted together, by menus ofnfange in the top section. In the use of my invention, when fastened on the. shoe, os in g. 1, a, the shoelstring or lacing is passed from4 the inside ofthe shoe, through the'eyelet, to the outside; then over the end of top 'section g, which forms a. lever, thence to-hole in centre e, through lever and bottom section, which binds the string, und', at the same time, locks the two sections together, preventing them from 'slipping or turning, thus keeping .the string iirmly bound, and preventing .it frorn draiving bach, butallowing the' string to be druivn through ,frein the inside to the outside without moving the level-,the sume forming n. click, which prevents the string from returning, except by pushing the lever to one side. Fig; 3 shows the bottom section, withA hole d cut through to receive the eyclet which fnstens one end to the shoe; also, hole e out through the centre'vfv'or the passage of string, and holej',
produced' by raising n. iinnge, (see side-view, fig. 5,f,) forthe purpose of riveting the top section or lever and bottom section together. Fig.` 6 shows the'two sections rivctelltogether, top section .or lever turned aside.
It wil be seen that the top section or lever is shorter than the bottom section, the endg not quitecover ing the hole d, iig. 6.
It is a, well-,known fact that ladies, gentlemen, and children who weer shoes end use strings or laeings, are
constantly annoyed by the niitying 'and knotting of their shoe-strings.' Noiv, my invention will prevent this trouble, :1nd,'I think, save many angry words and Ivry feces.l
I claim, in my invention, a. movable binding and locking-lever, C, for the purpose of fastening shoe-strings, and preventing the sumefrom' untying.
SIMON B. PARKER.
