Description

PATENTED MAY 10, 1904.
A E. HAAS. SASH CORD HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED APR..3O. 1903.
N0 MODEL.
UNITED iSTATES Patented May l, 19045.
PATENT OFFICE.
SASH-CORD HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 759,367, dated May 10, 1904.
Application filed April 30, 1903.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD HAAs, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Antonio, in the county of Bexar and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improve-- ments in Sash-Cord Holders; and I do declare the' following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This. invention relates to means for holding and fastening sash-cords to window-sashes.
The object of the invention is to provide a device by which a sash-cord may be attached to or detached from a window-sashwithout removing the same from the casing, a further object being to provide a device of this character which will be simple in construction, quickly and easily applied, and which will rmly hold the cord in place and which can be cheaply produced.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a vertical longitudinal section through one side of a sash and window-frame, showing the application of the device. Eig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the sash and the attaching device on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the device detached.
In the drawings, l denotes a window-sash, 2 denotes the frame, 3 denotes the sash-cord, 4 denotes the weight, and 4a denotes the sashcord pulley, all of which may be of the ordinar7 construction.
The attaching device 5 is formed'from a single piece of sheet metal, which is struck up to form the channel-piece, having the parallel sides 6 and the tubular portion 7 at the lower end of the channel-piece. Said tubular portion is open on its inner side, as at 7a, to enable it to be compressed or expanded radially to receive and compress one end of the sashcord. Said tubular portion is also provided with openings S for the reception of pins Serial No. 155,013. (No model.)
i which may be employed in securing the end `same thereto, it being understood that the channel portion of the attaching device is fitted in the mortise 9 in the edge of the sash and that the tubular portion 7 is tted in a vertical bore 10 at the lower end of the mortise. At one side of the lug or plate 12 is formed an ear 14, which is bent downwardly therefrom at right angles thereto to bear against one side of the sash and is provided with openings 15 for screws, whereby it may be secured to the sash. Y
In practice when it is desired to remove the sash-cord for renewal or other purpose the screws 13 in the plate 12 and top of the sash are removed, when the attaching device may be slipped out of the mortise 9l and bore 10, thus disengaging the cord lfrom the sash, a reversal of this operation being all that is necessary to again connect the cord with the sash.
It will be seen that bythe use of a sash-cord fastener as herein described a broken or worn sash-cord may be taken out and replaced without removing 4the window or taking off the sash-holding strip or stop-molding, the molding being cut to permit a section of the same to be removed with the usual pocket formed in the side of the window-frame to permit access to the lower end of the sash-cord to remove the same from the weight.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with ,the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-
As a new article of manufacture, a sash-cord,
IOO
to hear on one side of the sash, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof l have hereunto set rn y hund in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDW'ARD HAAS.
