PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY F. RENNER, OE ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO IIOL- LANDS 4MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA,
'A CORPORATION.
PIPE-CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 758,334, dated April 26, 1904.
Application filed October 24, 1903.
To ft/ZZ whom, it may; concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY F. RENNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Cutters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in pipe-cutters; and it consists, substantially, in the improvements in the construction thereof hereinafter set forth and explained, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view of my improved pipecutter, partially in elevation and partially in section. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same on the line x in Fig. 1.
In thedrawings, A is the frame provided with an upturned end B, in which the screwthreaded handle C C is mounted in the usual manner. The opposite end of the body A isA upturned, so as to formafixed jaw D. I make a slot cl through this jaw, in which I mount rotary cutters E E. This slot d is made entirely through the fixed jaw D, so as to form a free exit for dirt and metal chips, so that the rotary cuttersEE will not become clogged therewith. v
The movable jaw Fis provided with shoulders ff, which rest upon the top of the frame A, and also with a projection E', which extends down into a longitudinal recess A in the frame A, and through an opening f in is secured in the frame A at each end of the by held firmly in the frame A and at the same time slides longitudinally thereon. The movserial Nn. 173,388. (No man.)
able jaw F is connected with the screw-threaded handle C in the usual manner and is provided with a rotary cutter G, pivoted therein in the usual manner.
In the lower part of the frame A, Imake a longitudinal slot I, which opens into the recess A and provides an opening through the lower part of the frame, through which dirt and chips resulting from the action of the cutters will freely pass, so as not'to obstruct the movement of the movable jaw F.
Having thus described my invention, so as to enable others to construct and use the same, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
l.. The combination in a pipe-cutter, of a frame, a fixed jaw on said frame, rotary cutters mounted therein, a movable jaw. a rotary cutter mounted therein, a guide-rod operating as a ,guide for retaining themovable jaw in place on the frame, and a screw-threaded handle for operating the movable jaw, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination in a pipe-cutter, of a frame having alongitudinal recess therein and a longitudinal slot extending from the bottom of said recess through the frame, a fixed jaw on one end of the frame having a vertical slot therethrough, rotary cutters mounted in said slot, a movable jaw on said frame having a projection extending downward into the recess therein, a longitudinal guide-rod secured in the frame and passing through an opening in said projection, a rotary cutter mounted in said movable jaw, and a screw-threaded handle mounted in said frame for operating said movable jaw, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY E. RENNER.
