THOMAS ALFRED JONES, OF RIDGWAY, VILLINOIS sToFuvl-GOAT.` l
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 7 581,182, dated April 26, 1904.
apprenait ne@ reentry 17, 1904. Y serai Nu. 194.082. armada.)
To @ZZ wh/m, it may concern: l
Be it known that I, THOMAS ALFRED JONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ridg- Way, in the county of Gallatin and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Storm- Coat, of which the follo wing is a specification.
' This'invention relates to overcoats or storm-` coats more particularly of waterproof character, and has for its object to provide a simply-constructed garment of the class referred to which will effectually protect the undergarments from rain or snow, no matter how violently the arms or person of the wearer lmay be required to move about.
With these and other objects in view, which Will appear as the-nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described andclaimed.
1n the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred form of the embodiment of the invention capable of carrying `the same into practical operation, it being understood that the invention is not necessarily limited thereto, as various changes in the shape, proportions, and general assemblage of the parts may be resorted to without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages, and the right is therefore reserved of making all the changes and modifications which fairly fall within the scope of the invention and the claims made therefor.
In the drawings thus employed, Figure 1 is a view of one of the improved garments particularly disconnected. Fig. 2 isv a similar view with the parts Wholly connected andfastened.
The body of the garment is formed in the usual manner with sleeves 11 12 and neck-l Vopenings 13 and may be provided with the usual folding collar 14, if required. The material may be of any of the usual fabrics employed in suc-h garments, but will preferably be of Waterproof character.
The improvements to the garment consist first in extending one of the fronts laterally, as at 16, with its free edge 17 near the center of the opposite side, or substantially in vertical alinement with the opposite sleeve, and
provided with suitable fastening means, such las buttons 18 and buttonholes 19.
furthermore, in providing a cover-flap 23, at- 4 tached along the center of the shoulder-line between the neck-opening and the juncture of the sleeve and garment-body and forming a covering means to fold over the upper portion of the Hap 2O and adjacent upper portion of the extension portion 16. The flap 23 Will be provided with suitablel fastening means, such as buttonholes 24, for engagement with buttons 25 on the extension portion 16 and if required, a button may also be attached to the pocket-ap 2O for engagement with a corresponding buttonhole in the flap 23. By this simple arrangement it will be obvious that va simpl y-'constructed and easily-applied garment is produced which Will efectually exclude rain 'or snow and thoroughly protect the undergarments, while at the same Atime,
leaving the sleevesfree to be moved about to any required extent by the action of the arms The garment thus constructed may be of Y any required material and any required Style of out and may be'worn by childrenor 'l adults with equal facility.
If required, the under Hap of the front at one side may be cut away, as indicated by dotted line 26 in Fig. l, to reduce the thickness at the front of the skirt of the garment.
IOO
IO top of thel shoulder and forming a cover for the contiguous portions of said extended front and of ysaid receptacle-forming flap.
nk testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
THOMAS ALFRED JoNEs.
