'IO ALL WHOM IT MAY vYCONCERN:
Be it. known that I, JAMES MACFERRAN, of the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania,
have invented a new and useful Improvement in Night-Chairs; and I do hereby decla-re that the following is 'afull and exact description thereof, reference beingohad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. i
The nature of my invent-ion mainly consists, in the first place, in a. removable double slide, in combination with the pot and` chair, the main plat-"t of the slide holding the 'rim of the pot, and supported by means of ways ouwhich itis moved `to its plaice beneath the seetof the chair, and removed at pleasure therefrom. The other slide is couibi'nedwith this to fornita; cover to the pot. The improvement consists, inthe second place, in folding arms, combined with the seai fof thechair in sucha manner as to be brought into their perpendicular position Vwh'enjthe hinged cover of the chair-.is thrown up, andV to be folded down flat when the cover is to be brought dowr. `In the third place, in the combination of a. cover to the` seat in suche manner as vto admit of an inside support to the arms when the .latter are thrown up. And in the fourth place, in the combination of the arms and cover of the box by means of clasps to hold the cover securely its raised position, and give an outside support to the armsrholding them firmly against the'ends of the seat-cover in itsr'raised position. In the accompanying drawings l I I Figure 1 is an isometrical view of the chair, with the covers and arms in their raised position, and the slide F removed.
Figure 2, Sheet No. 2, is a vertical cross-section of the same. v
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section, with the slide F in its place, and the arms and covers folded down.
Figure 4, Sheet No. 3,'is an isometrical view of the slide F.
Figure 5 is alike View of F. l
Lilie letters in alll the figures indicate the same parts. v
A is the' boxpart or body of the'vchair. B is a hinged cover of the same. C is a door to the space D, through which the pot E is removed. is e, slide which is supported by the ways a ca The rim/of the pot E is supported by the rebates b of said slide. ,In combination with said slide there is a`slide,uF,w.hichlfi'ts in the longitudinal grooves ce, *These sli-destare represented in detail in gs. 4 and5. G is the seat. II is n. board, hinged to the longitudinal'strip'dj it is thrown up as seen in figs. 1 and 2, forfait inside support to the arms I I. These arms are hinged tothecross-stripsee, to admit of beingvfolded down out of the way of the cover B, when thel latter is to be closed.V ,e The cover is held in its vertical position by the clasps J J', the pieces J being confined by means of screwsto the inside of the rim of the cover, asseen in fig. 1.
It will be seen that the slicleFQfitting closely over the upper surface 5f-the slide F, over t-he'riin of the pot E, thc latter may be removed frorhthe chair and carried away without the escapo of stench.
WhatI claim as my invention, Vand desire to secure by Letters Patent, isu 1. The double slide F F, combined and arranged with the pot and chair, substantially as and for the pur pose above set forth. l n
'2. The combination and arrangement of the cover H with the seat Gr and arms I I, substantially'as described, and for the purpose specified.
'lhe combination of the ,clasps J and Jwith the cover B und arms I I, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that `the above is my -invention, I have hereunto set myhzrnd, this 13th day of February, 1868.
JAMES MACFERRAN.
