lPatented April 19, 1904.
GOLDEN FRANCIS ALLEN, OF WALTHAMS'ION, ENGLAND.
FOLDING HAMMQCK-STAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent,No. 75"/,428, dated April 19, 1904. Application led September 5, 1903. Serial No. 172,111. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, GOLDEN FRANCIS ALLEN, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of Walthamston, in the county of Essex, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Hammock- Stands, (for which I have applied for a patent in Great Britain, No.V 6,156, dated March 11, 1903,) of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification..r
This invention consists of an improved folding hammock-stand adaptable also as a chair, the object being to provide folding chairs, commonly known as deck-chairs, with a hammock which may be readily placed .in position for use when desired.
The essential feature or features of the invention consist in the arrangement and attachment of barsto the framing of a deck-chair for the purpose of supporting a hammock therefrom and the method of attaching the hammock thereto.
For purposes of illustration I will now refer to the annexed drawings, in whichin position for use.
Figure 1 shows a side view of my invention Fig. -2 shows a plan view of same. Fig. 3 showsa perspective view'of my invention.
In carrying out my invention I provide the side bars a of the deck-chair with a short block of Wood 5, pivotally attached thereto at c', and
to the under side of these blocks I pivotally attachv the bars c by means of a bolt or pin j, as shown. When in use, the bars care arranged to engage with the under side of the framing d of the deck-chair, the free ends e being brought together, as shown in Figs. 2
and 3, these ends e being notched on their under side, so that a hoop or ring f, attached to one end of the hammock g by cords c, may engage therewith, the other end of the hammock being fastened in any suitable manner to the crosslbar of the chair side bars a, preferably by cordsZ engaging with a hook or pin m on the bar L, as shown. By varying or altering the inclination of the chair in the manner common to these forms of chairs the position of the hammock (which may be of any wellknown construction) may be vari-ed as desired. When not in use, the hammock is disengaged and the bars e swung into a position alongside the side bars a, the chair being collapsed in the usual way.
Having thus described my invention, what yI claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In folding hammock-stands the combination with a collapsible deck-chair, of blocks pivotally attached to the side bars of the chair,
bars pivotally attached one to each of the said blocks and having notches formed on the under side of their free ends, a hammock attached to the upper end of the chair, a ring attached to the lower end of said hammock and engaging with the notches aforesaid, substantially as described and illustrated herein.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 20th day of July, 1903.
GOLDEN FRANCIS ALLEN.
