TAG OR LABEL HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 756,301, dated April 5, 1904.
Application filed June 19, 1903.

Be it known that I, JAMES FLIVAID citizen of the United States, residing atUniondale, in the county of Wells and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Tag or Label Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices employed for supporting tags or labels upon packages or closures of various kinds and used for shipping or identification purposes, and has for its object to simplify and improve devices of this character and to produce a device which shall be impervious to moisture, heat, acids, oil, and the like and which will effectually protect the address-card and at the same time be easily separable for the renewal or substitution of the card.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter shown and described, and specified in the claims.
In the drawings illustrative of the invention, in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device complete. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation with the address-card partially inserted. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the device complete. Fig. 4 is a transverse section.
The improved device consists of an open metal frame 10, with the sides and ends formed of spaced metal strips closed upon all the outer edges save one, as at 11, and adapted to support two transparent diaphragms 12 13, preferably of mica or similar refractory substance or material, the diaphragms adapted to be inserted through the unclosed edge 11.
The address-card is represented at 14 and will be inserted between the diaphragms, as shown.
After the diaphragms and card are inserted the unclosed edges of the frame will be pinched together to close the frame and prevent the accidental displacement of the contents of the frame, as represented in Fig. 3.
It will be obvious that the frame may be of any size or of any relative proportions and of any gage or quality of metal to adapt the device to the uses for which it is employed.
By this simple means an address or advertising card or cards may be displayed and ef- Serial No. 162,232. (No model.)
fectually protected from the elements, oils, acids, and the like or from a reasonable degree of heat and will be found a very useful and convenient article for the'purposes enumerated.
The tag-holder may be attached in any desired manner to package or inclosure; but generally acord or wire 16 will be employed for that purpose, the perforations for cord or wire being also preferably formed through the diaphragms and card, as shown in Fig. 3, to assist in holding them in place.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is- 1. As a new article of manufacture, a tagholder comprising an open metal frame constructed with spaced side and end members, supporting spaced transparent diaphragms adapted to retain a card or placard between them said frame being provided with an aperture in one of its edges through which to insert the diaphragms and cards, the latter being secured in place by compressing the metal of the frame, substantially as specified.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a tagholder comprising an open metal frame constructed with spaced side and end members, supporting spaced transparent diaphragms adapted to retain a card or placard between them, and provided with registering apertures through the frame members and diaphragms to receive the attaching cord or wire, substantially as specified.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a tagholder comprising an open metal frame constructed with spaced side and end members, supporting spaced transparent diaphragms adapted to retain a card or placard between them, and provided with registering apertures throughthe frame members, diaphragms and the card held between them for the reception of the attaching cord or wire, substantially as specified.
