Abstract

An attachable label characterized by a wider portion which serves to receive an inscription and which is provided with one part of a fastening means, and by a narrower portion which constitutes an elongated strip and which carries the other part of the fastening means, the whole arrangement being such that when the elongated strip is bent over one fastening part can be brought into operative connection with the other fastening part.

mveuron XavsR BURGI ATTOR NE Y ATTACIIABLELABEL The present invention relates to an attachable label which is intended for fastening on useful objects for the purpose of identifying the latter. Such objects may for example be pieces of luggage, suitcases, travelling bags, briefcases, and other personal effects which are to be marked with the name of the owner or with some other inscription. The attachable label is however also in tended for use for marking certain objects only temporarily by providing them with an attachable label on which the name of the owner or some other marking can be inscribed.
Attachable labels are already known for such purposes, but their fastening on the object to be identified is complicated. For example, these known labels are tied to the object in question, but this does not permit rapid and simple fastening. Moreover known labels can usually be removed without difficulty from the object, which may lead to misuse. The fastening means of known labels are furthermore frequently of such a kind that the labels may become detached from the object and consequently lost, which may have disagreable 1 consequences for the owner of the object.
The aim of the invention is now to provide an attachable label which is exempt from the abovementioned disadvantages.
The attachable label according to the invention is characterized by a wider portion which serves to receive the inscription and which is provided with one part of a fastening means, and by a narrower portion which is in the form of an elongated strip and which carries the other part of the fastening means, the whole arrangement being such that when the elongated strip is bent over one fastening part can be operatively connected to the other fastening part.
Examples of embodiment of the invention are explained in greater detail below with reference to the drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a side view of the attachable label, and
FIG. 2 is a plan view of the label illustrated in FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a plan view showing the label in its attached position.
The label, which may for example be made of paper, cardboard, or plastics material, has a wide, substantially rectangular portion 1 serving to receive an inscription. From one corner of this part 1 a longer, narrow band 2 extends, which at its free end 3 carries a fastening pin 4 provided with a head 5. At the corner lying opposite the previously mentioned corner, in the direction of the width of the part 1, an eye 6 is provided which is intended to receive the connection pin 4,5.
The diameter of the eye 6 is made smaller than the diameter of the head 5 of the connecting pin 4.
The abovedescribed attachable label is fastened by bending over the elongated narrow strip 2 in the direction of the eye 6 in the wide portion 1 of the label. The connecting pin 4 is then pressed by its head 5 into the eye 6. In consequence of the abovedescribed construction of the connecting pin 4 and of the eye 6, these fastening parts are held firmly together in such a manner that their detachment, and consequently the removal of the label from an object, are made very difficult or at least can be effected only after destruction of the label.
According to another embodiment, which is not 11- lustrated, the connecting pin is disposed in the wide portion of the label which serves to receive the inscription, and the eye forming the other fastening part is disposed at the end of the narrow elongated strip of the label.
Instead of a connecting pin 4 it would also be possible to use an element in the form of a plastics peg provided with barbs. When a plastics peg of this kind is pushed into a hole or into an eye, the barbs are first pressed towards the axis of the peg and then, after passing through the hole, expand outwardly.
In this embodiment of the invention extremely rapid and reliable fastening of the attachable label to an object is also ensured.
I claim 1. An attachable label comprising a first portion integrally connected to a relatively narrow second portion, the said first portion adapted to display an inscription, fastening means comprising two parts, each of said parts being fixed to one of said portions, one of said parts being constituted by a pin having an enlarged head and the other part being constituted by an aperture adapted to receive the said pin and to lock the head therethrough, and wherein the said second portion is a narrow rectangular strip and said first portion has a substantially rectangular shape having a width wider than the strip, the said narrow strip being connected to the second portion near one corner thereof and extends along a longitudinal edge of the rectangular shape portion.
2. A label as recited in claim 1, wherein one part of the fastening means is located at the free end of the said strip and the other part of the fastening means is located in the corner of the rectangular portion perpendicularly adjacent the end of the strip, whereby the strip forms a triangular aperture when the two parts of the fastening means are fastened together.

Claims (2)
