vTO ALL 4WIEIOM IT MAY CONCERN:
. l Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. CHANDLER, of North Scituate, in the county of Provideuce, and State of Rhode Island, have'invented an Improved Machine for strapping land Grinding Cards; and do hereby declare that lthe following is afull and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification. v
The nature of my invention consists in the application of a simplevmode of reversing motion to a machine for strapping and grindingcards.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describeits construction ,and operation.
v Figure 1 represents a top view, showing the box withinwhich the machine is enclosed.
Figure 2 represents a. side view, with one side of the box removed for the purpose of showing the interior.
Figure 3 represents a top view of a portion of the machinery.
In the drawings, A represents a traveller, which moves buck and forth in the slot B. Upon the traveller A are placed the rings or staples FF, to which the apparatus which operates upon the teeth ofthe cards is to be attached in any suitable manner. C is-a hinged cover to the box or case, which encloses the machine. E E is the driving-shaft, und D the pulley. Upon the shaft E is placed the worm G operating upon the gear-wheel I H. This gear-wheel is attached to a shaft having a pulley, I, at one end. From this pulley a belt, JJ, runs to the pulley I. Upon the belt J J is secured the stud K, which moves with the belt around both pulleys. This stud enters a. s,lotL, in the lower part of the traveller A, thus causing such traveller to be moved back and `forth in the groove B. M M are parallel guides for the lowerpart of the traveller.`
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
lThe combination of a slot, L, in the traveller A, with a stud, K, belt, J J, und pulleys, I I', gear-wheel, H, and worm, Gr,substantially 'as and for the purpose specied. Y
WILLIAM H. CHANDLER'.
