.110 MODEL.
ZmaaaelflnttlerZ wrr A TTORNEYS UNrrE TATES Patented. March 29, 1904:,
ATENT FFIQEQ FlREARM.
SIEClFIGATIOLN forming part of Letters PatentNo. 755,773, dated March 29, 1904:.
Application filed June 17, 1903- Serial N0. 161,787- (No model.)
To all whom it may o0np ern Be it known that I, EMANUEL SATTLER HOERR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Firearms, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to firearms, and particularly to revolvers; and. the object-thereof is to provide an arm of this class which may also be used as a knife or cuttingor stabbing device, a further object being to provide an arm of the class specified with a handle portion which may be adjusted to or secured in to different positions, according to the use to which the arm is to be applied.
The invention is fully disclosed in the-following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which 7 Y Figure 1 1s a side view of a revolver made according to my: invention, and Fig. 2 a crosssection on the lme2 2 of Fig. 1,
In the drawings forming part of this specification I have shown a revolver comprising the usual frame portion a, the usual cylinder 6, a hammer 0-, a trigger e, and a barrel f, and all these parts, with the exception of the barrel, are ofthe usual construction and operation and form no part of this invention.
In the practice of my invention the barrel f is projected and formed into a cutting-blade f the edge of which is directed downwardly, as shown at f, and the top portion of the barrel is cut away forwardly anddownwardly, as shown at and extended to a point at The barrel f is also provided with the usual bore f, which opens outwardly at J, and the operation of the revolver for the objects or uses for which arevolver is intended will be the same as other firearms of this class.
The handle portion 1 is conhected with the frame a. by a pivot-pin or screw 9 and the head, g of. thehandlc' portion is adapted to turnin "a corresponding recess formed in the frame a, and the bottom portion of said head is provided with a lug or projection 9 which limits the downward movement of the handle g, and the top portion of the head g of the handle is provided with a plurality of recesses g and 9 twoof which are preferably employed, and pivoted in the-frame a is a dog h, provided with a hooked nose 73, adapted to enter the recesses g and g,-and secured to the frame a is a spring 2', which is adapted to force said dog into operative connection with the head g of the handle g. The normal position this position the device may beused as an ordinaryrevolver and may also be used as a striking cutter or for the purpose of deli-vering a cutting blow with the blade f but whenever it is so desired the handle g may be swung into the position shown in dotted lines .in Fig. 1, in'which position a stabbing or thrusting blow may be struck, and it will also be apparent that a stabbing or thrusting blow may be struckwhen the handle g is in the position shown in full lines in Fig. 1. By swinging the handle into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 the weapon maybe used for many purposes in the manner of an ordinary knife or for hewing or hacking purposes, and it will thus be seen that I providea combination weapon and tool which may be used both as a weapon of attack and defense and which may also be used for various purposes for which such weapons or toolsas knives,
hate bets, and similar articlesn1ay beu'sed.
Having fully described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'
Arevolver, the barrel of which is formed into a pointed and cuttihg blade, the edge of which is directed downwardly, the handle or grip portion of the revolver b'eingpivoted and adapted to swing in a vertical plane and to be secured in the usual or in a horizontalposition, substantially as shown and described.
Intestimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 11th day of June, 1903 EMANUEL SA'ITLELI. HUBER.
lVitn'esses:
E. D. KIRK,
MABEL MoAms.
