Be it known that I, JAMES WILSON-HAF- FENDEN, a subject of the King of vGrre'at Britain and Ireland, residing at Homewood, East Croydon, in the county of Surrey, England,

u in the correct position and shall be adapted for any size of waist, and comprises, a thin plate provided on one side with projecting studs and hereinafter called the stud-plate, pins pivoted at one end of the stud-plate and engaging hooks on the other end of the plate after the manner of a safety-pin, and a corresponding plate with eyelets adapted to engage the studs and hereinafter called the eyeletplate. The stud-plate is secured to one of the parts to be held and the eyelet-plate to another part by'means of the pins, and the two plates are then connected together yby the studs and eyelets. In a slightly-modified form the stud-plate is adj ustably held on a waistband, being provided for this purpose with slotted extensions at its ends through which the band is passed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l illustrates one part of the improved garmentadjuster which is adapted to be connected directly to the blouse and to a waistband. Fig. 2 illustrates the other part of the garment-adjuster which is connected to the skirt. Fig. 3 shows a similar device to Fig. l, but adapted for use without arwaistband; and Figs. 4 and and 5 illustrate the application of the improved adjuster as used, respectively, with and without a waistband.

The stud-plates a, which are stamped out of sheet metal and carry studs a', are provided at one end with hooks b, with which' pins o, pivoted at the opposite end, are adapted to engage. The pins c are preferably formed from a single wire bent to a Ushape and pointed at both ends, and when disengaged from their -hooks 6 the plate can turn freely between them, enabling them to be turned back and passed through the material towhich it is desired to secure the plate vand then brought forward again and secured-under the hooks When the stud-plate is combined with a waistband or belt al, slotted extensions f are formed on the plate, the band being passed through the slots, and behind the plate, as shown inFigs. l and 4. The eyelet-plates a2 are somewhat shorter than the stud-plates, but are provided with similar fastening devices b @for attaching them to the skirt. One side of the eyelet-plate has no projecting parts, so that it fits close up against the stud-plate when the eyelets a3 are passed over the studs a. Each eyelet consists of a slot fitting the neck of the stud, but widened at its lower end to enable it to be passed over thehead thereof.

In use the stud-plate a is attached to the waist c' of the blouse by turning back the pins c, passing them through the material of the blouse, then bringing them forward and placing them in the hooks Z2. The eyelet-plate ce2 is attached to the skirt j in like manner, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, and finally the two plates are connected together by passing the eyelets over the studs.

What-I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- Y 1. A garment adjuster or holder consisting of a stud-plate adapted to be directly attached to one part to be held, and comprising a plate bent to form hooks at one end, pins pivoted at the opposite end of the plate, and spaced apart a distance greater than the width of the plate, whereby the plate can freely oscillate between them, enablingthe pins to be turned back past one side of the plate to pass through a part of the garment and then turned for- To better IOO ward past the other side of the plate to engage the hooks and studs fixed in the plate; in cornbination with an eyelet-plate adapted to be attached to the other part to be held and to engage the studs of the studplate,substan tially as described.

2. A garment adjuster or holder consisting of an eyelet-plate adapted to be directly attached to one part to be held, and comprising a plate provided with eyelet-openings and bent to form hooks at one end, and pins piv oted atthe opposite end of the plate and spaced apart a greater distance than the width of the plate, whereby the plate can freely oscillate between the pins, enabling the pins to be turned back past one side of the plate tonpass through a part of the garment and then turned forward past the other side of the plate to engage the hooks; in combination with a studplate adapted to be attached to the other part to be held and to engage the eyelets, substantially as described.

3. A garment adjuster or holder consisting of a stud-plate adapted to be directly attached to one part to be held, and comprising aplate bent to form hooks at one end, pins pivoted at the opposite end of the plate and spaced apart a distance greater than the width of the plate, whereby the plate can freely oscillate between them, enabling the pins to be turned back past one side of the plate to pass through a part of the garment and then turned forward past the opposite side of the plate to engage the hooks, and studs iixed in the plate; in combination with an eyelet-plate adapted to be attached to the other part to be held and comprising a plate provided with eyelet-openings for receiving the studs of the stud-plate, hooks on one end of the plate and pins pivoted at the opposite end of the plate and adapted to be passed through the part to be held and then to engage in the hooks, said pins being spaced apart a distance greater than the width.

A garment adjuster or holder, consisting of an independent waistband, a stud-plate adjustably mounted on the waistband and comprising a plate bent to form hooks at one end, and an eye or knuckle at the other end, slotted end extensions on the plate beyond the said hooks and eye or knuckle for connection with the waistband, teeth on the slotted extensions adapted to engage the said band, pins pivoted in said eye or knuckle and cooperating with the said hooks thereon to secure the plate to one of the parts to be held, said pins being so spaced that the plate may swing or oscillate between them, and studs lixed in the plate; in combination with an eyelet-plate adapted to be attached to the other part to be held and to engage the studs on the stud-plate, substantially as described.
