GUlDE-fiOLLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 753,753, dated March 1, 1904.
Application filed August 10, 1903. Serial No. 169,044. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. S'roBIE, a resident of Waterville, in the county of Kennebec and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guide- Rollers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
' My invention relates to an improvement in guide-rollers for paper-machines, the object of the invention being to provide the guideroller with a covering of rubber, felt, or other frictional covering to make the wire or felt more sensitive to the action of the roller or, in other words, to prevent slipping of the felt or wire on the roller, and thus make the action of the roller more efficacious.
With this object in view the invention consists in a guide-roller for paper-machines and the like having a covering or coating of frictional material.
The accompanying drawing is a diagrammatic view illustrating the application of my improved roller.
1 represents the felt or wire, and 2 my improved guide-roller for compelling the proper movement of the felt or wire.
As is well known in this art, guide-rollers are mounted to be automatically turned to different angles by mechanism automatically operated by the felt or wire to compel the felt or wire to run true, and as I do not restrict myself to any particular form of such mechanism it is not necessary to illustrate or describe any. 7
The roller 2 is covered with rubber, felt, or other material which will increase the frictional contact with the wire or felt, and I have found by actual experiment that a guideroller so made is a vast improvement over any guide-roller as heretofore made.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a felt, of a guideroller located in close proximity thereto, said guide-roller provided with a frictional surface in contact with said felt at an intermediate point thereof.
2. The combination with a felt of a papermachine, of a guide-roller located under said felt at an intermediate point, said roller having a frictional surface in contact with the felt.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM H. STOBIE. Witnesses:
GEORGE M. Foss, LAURISTON L. CRooKER.
