-metal without the employment of rivets and the like and which will be extremely simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, adjustable to fit various sizes of windows and which is constructed to minimize wear and present smooth dull edges on both faces of the screen.
With this object in'view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in'the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in elevation, illustrating my improvements. Fig. 2 is a view in section on the line w 9; thereof, and Fig. 3 is a view in section on the line y g of Fig. 1. Figs. 4 and 5 are detail views.
1 and 2 represent the two members of the screen,which are constructed precisely alike, and the below description of one member will therefore apply alike to both.
Each screen member comprises upright side bars 3 and top and bottom bars 4 and 5, respectively, all composed of sheet metal bent or folded longitudinally to clamp the edges of a wire screen or netting therein. To form the screen, the strips of sheetmetal forming when in position the vertical sidebars 3 are first bent longitudinally and the edges of screen 6 placed therein, when the strip is again folded longitudinally, securely clamping the screen, forming on one side a flat smooth surface and on the other,where the double thickness of the strip is located, a more or less rounded contour free from any sharp or rough edge. The
top and bottom bars 4 and 5 are next applied in like manner and inclose the ends of vertical side bars 3, making a' neat, attractive, and strong joint. In folding or bending top and bottom bars 4 and 5 onto thescreen thin.
Both members 1 and 2 have both their top and bottom bars and one vertical side bar bent to locate the double bend or fold thereof on the same face of the screen, while the other vertical side bar is located in just the reverse position, so that when the members are assembled the single thickness of the strips forming top, bottom, and'one side bar will be adjacent to each other, affording a close fit to exclude the passage of flies and the like from between the members, and the other vertical side bar 3 is so folded as to present its double thickness or rounded edge to the screen, against which it rubs in adjusting the members, and hence reduces the wear which would occur if a sharp edge be presented to the screen or netting.
To facilitate adjustment or sliding movement of the screen member, I secure in one vertical side bar a handhold 8, which comprises a metal strip folded in with the bar to secure it firmly in position and projects from the bar as-far as may be found desirable to give a free handhold.
A great many changes might 'be made in the general form and arrangement of theparts described without departing from my invention, and hence I would have it understood that I do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty tomake such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.

In a Window-screen, the combination of two over the top and bottom strips of the adjacent member to give them sliding connection and 'hold the members with the faces thereof together which have the three single thicknesses of edge strips.
