TO'ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:
Be it known thatwe, L. S. OovnY andJoHN DUFFY, citizens of St. Croix county, and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Machine for Pressing Water from Mops; and wedo' hereby declare that the following isa. full, clear, and explicit. description of the construction and operation'of thesame, reference being had' to the annexed drawings, makinga part ofY thisspecication,` in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view,
Figure 2 a transverse section, and
Figure 3 a. section of the box o r receiver.
The nature of our invention consists in an easy and convenient mode of pressing water out of's'couring and other mpps, and thus avoiding the-n ccessityofwringing them with the hands.
Toenable others skilled in' the art to make and use our invention, we will proceed to describe its constrnction and operation. 'l
We construct the frame, A, out of hard wood, or other suitable material, usually in the form as seen in ig. 1 The box or receiver, E, is made substantially of any size required, with a false bottom, i, iig. 3, and the second bottom g. vThe opening space, b, between these two bottoms, is left for the escape of the water pressed froln the mops, end which passes into a. bucketor other vessel'to be placed on the platform of the frame Af i The groovesV or water-passages within the box or receiver E, are so formed that thomop-cloth cannot press into them so as to stop the free ilow of the water when pressed from the mop'. These grooves, e e, are formed by boring holes `of a proper'siz'e down through the sides of the box or receiver E, and cutting the slits d nl so as to i connect the holes with the receiver. The grooves e e are extended downwards through the rst or false bottom, through QWhich the water passesoutward between the bottonns, escaping at the opening b b. For convenience sake the grooves e e are formed by small slats attached to the inner side ofthe box or reccivcrF. In the front of box- E is a. slit or opening, m, in which to pass the handle of th'e mopdurng'the processof pressing out the water. Theplnnger or, press C ts snugly into'the box or receiver E, andis workcd'by'means ofthe lever D working on the bent cross-beam F. When the lever D is suiiicientlyaised, the spring t', upon the cross-beamv F, catches upon the pin'lc, and securely holds the lever in position during the handling of the mop.
What We claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The box or receiver E,:^constructed and operated substantially as described, in-c'ombination with the plunger C, the lever D,and the cross-beam F, and grooves ec, all constructed and arranged substantially Aas and for the purpose described` i i 'i L.l S. COVEY,
JOHN DUFFY.
