COMPOSITION POST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 752,354, dated February 16, 1 904.
Application filed November 27, 1903. Serial No. 182,845. (No model.)
To all, whom, t may concern: v
Be it known that I, W'ESLEYW. NORTHRUP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Belleville, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Composition Posts; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear` and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in posts, and especially in the provision of a composition post made, preferably, of triangular shape in cross-section and provided on one face with a series of steps which terminate in flattened portions of the post which are at right angles to the shoulders formed by the steps and against which the binding-Wires are adapted to contact in holding the line-wires in position uponthe various steps of the post.
The invention consists, further, in the provision of a composition post made, preferably, of tapering form and provided with a series of steps upon one face thereof and having brace-rods incorporated in the body portion of the post, the ends of which rods project beyond the base and are bent to form hooks for anchorage purposes.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which drawings similar letters of reference indicate like parts in the views, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a post embodying the features of my invention, showing the manner of attaching the line-wires. Fig. Q is a cross-sectional view on line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the lower end of the post.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates my post, which is made of any7 suitable composition and is of substantially triangular shape in crosssection, with one corner, B, rounded, while the other corners (designated by letter D) are fiattened and disposed at right angles to the face A', which face is provided with a series of steps a, which are formed transversely upon one face of the post, while the portions of the face of the post, upon which the steps are formed are inclined over the forward edge of the step above the rear portion of the step beneath. The various steps are provided for the purpose of receiving the eline-wires E, which are held securely upon the steps by the binding-wires F, which binding-wires are coiled at the points F about the line-wires and pass about the rounded corner of the post, the portions of the binding-wires adjacent to their coiled ends being adapted to contact with the flattened portions D of the post, securely holding the line-wires in the positions 'illustrated in the drawings, whereby the longitudinal line-wires may be securely held against the post.
Incorporated in the post are brace-rods K, the lower ends of which project beyond `the bottom of the post and form hooks K', which are adapted to serve as a means for securely anchoring the post in the ground, while portions of the braces serve to strengthen the post, running lengthwise thereof.
By the provision of a post embodying the features of my invention I havei found that line-wires fastened in the mannerdisclosed will be securely held in place, and a post is provided having suiiicient strength to withstand enormous strains coming upon the same.
While I have shown a particular construction of post embodying the features of my invention, it will be understood that, if desired, I may make alterations in the detailed construction of the same without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A composition post of general triangular shape in cross-section tapering toward its upper end, one of the edges of the post being rounded, and the face of the post opposite said rounded edge having formed therein a series of steps, upon which line-wires are adapted to rest, Ineansfor holding the line- In testimony whereof I hereunto aiix my Wirls upon said stels, the potions of thle face signature in presence of two Witnesses.
oft e post interme iate sai steps ino ining from the outer edge of the step above to the WESLEY W NGRTHRUB 5 rear of the adjacent step beneath, and the por- Witnesses:
