MATTHIAS MESSNER, OF TROSSINGEN, GERMANY.-
mourn-HARMONICA.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 752,295, dated February 18, 1904. Application filed September 2, 1903. Serial No. 171,588. (No model.)
1'0 @146 whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MATTHIAS MnssNnR, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Trossingen, Kingdom of VVi'irtemberg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mouth-Harmonicas, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in mouth-harmonicas of the class provided with trumpet-like members; and the invention coinprises a reed-board provided with coverings or mouthpieces which at their rear portions are shaped in trumpet-like form in the direction of their lengt Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a mouth- Fig. 2 is an end view thereof. Fig. 3 is a cross-section through Fig. 1, and Fig. i is a front view. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views. At a is indicated the scale or reed board, which is shown curved on the playing side and provided with reed-plates 5, having reeds I or tongues in usual manner, and at c are indicated the covers or inouthpieces overlying the reeds and secured to the reed-board in' suitable or well-known manner. Said covers at their rear or free sides and in the longitudinal direction of the instrument are made in trumpet-like form or substantially semibell shape, being showntapering from one end to the other and having their edges at 65 hearing against the reed-board, whereby said parts d at one end open out. wide and at the other end lie firmly on the instrument, as shown, forming sound-chambers between the parts (Z and the reed-board. As both covers a at their rear parts have said trumpet-like portions (Z arranged on opposite sides of the reed-board, the well-known trumpet or hell like attachment frequently placed on the back of a mouth-harmonica is dispensed with, and a compact, simple, and inexpensive instrument of the character described is produced.
Having now described my invention, what I claim is A mouth-harmonica comprising a reed-- board and a cover over the reeds, the rear portion of the cover being bent in substantially trumpet-like shape extending longitudinally of the reed-board and smaller at one end than at the other end providing a soundchamber having wide open end, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof LMAr'rmAs MEssNnR,
have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, this 4th day of August, 1903.
