srnc mcarrou' forming part of Letters Patent No. 752,141 dated February-16, ieoa.
Application filed November-14, 1901. Serial No- 82,272. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern;
- Be it known that I, EUGENE C. CHANDLER,
of Sycamore, Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers- Creasers, of which the following is a specification. I
This lnventlon relates to improvements 1n trousers-creasers, and refers more specifically to a pressing device comprising a pair ofcooperating metal rollers'monnted upon suitable crease the garment by passing the folds therebetween.
The object of the invention'is to provide a simple handy device which may be used to crease the trousers Without necessarily removing the garment from the wearer.
' To this end the invention consists in the matters hereinafter described, and more par-. ticularly pointed out in the appended claims,
and the samewill be readily understood from the following description, reference being had to the -accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a preferred embodiment of my invention. Fig; 2 is aside elevation of same, a fold of cloth .or portion of atrousers-leg being shown in dotted lines as interposed between the pressing rollers; and Fig. 3 is an end view lookingat the rollers. Y Referring to the drawings, 5and 6 respectively designate apair of tong-like arms which are preferably made of flat strap metal and pivoted together tong fashion at apoint intermediate their lengths, as indicated at 7 said arms being outwardly bowed, so as to carry the handled ends of the arms well out'ofthe plane of operation of the rollers. 8 and 9 designate the pair of rollers journaled upon the ends of the respective arms 5 and 6, so as to occupy the same plane, the axes. or pivot- studs 10 and 11, upon which said rollers are journaled, being arranged parallel with each other and the meeting surfaces of the rollers being cylindric, so as to fit uniformly together.
.throughout I their faces or meeting portions.
Screw-threaded connections or by riveting.
In order to aid in properly guiding the fold of cloth between the rollers, a guard is provided which serves to limit the extent to which.
the fold may be inserted between the ,rollers instance formed in the shape ofan arm 12, r
formed integrally with one of the 'mairn sup porting-arms, as. 5, andextending across the.
opposite armina curve concentric-with the.
pivotal axis 7 of the device. To limit the ex tent to which the. rollers may be separated-- the outer end of the guard is slotted, as indicated at 13, and arranged to engage an'extien sion of the pivot-stud 11 of the roller 9, said- 'slot being curved concentrically with thepivotaxis of the device and being closed at bdth ends. Desirably and' as shown herein the guard is deflected or ofl'setbetwee'n its ends, as indicated at 14;, so as to overlie the end of the arm 6, while permitting its main body por tion, which acts as a guard, torest closel'yad-' jacent to the rear sides of the pressing-rollers.
A As an important feature contributing to the convenience of use of the device I round the corners of the rolls, as indicated at 15, slightly,
the rollers to pass upon the fold and avoid- .75 V thereby greatly facilitating the adjustmentigof tween the pressed and impressed portions of the garment. The ends of the arms 5 and 6 opposite the roller-supporting ends \are provided with suitable" handles, preferably of wood or other material ndta good conductor I of heat.
In using the device the rollers will prefer ably be heated by any suitable means as; for example, a gas-jet or by placing them upo'n a suitable heating-stoveand then applied-to the garment in themannerindicated'in' Fig/.2
and passed repeatedly along the fold until the latter has been creased to the desired extent. '3
down the lleg of the trousers without remov ing the garmentfrom the wearer and with- Theoperator by holding the fold partly in, shape with one hand can pass the device up andout'any danger of burning or discommoding the wearer. The outward bowing of the arms enables the'operators hand which applies the pressure to the rolls to be kept entirelyout with the utmost expedition of contactwith the garment, and the operation of creasing or rear-easing may be accomplished and convenience. I claim as my invention 1." A-trousers-creaser comprising a pair, of arms pivoted together intermediate their ends tong fashion, a pair of rollers with plain, cylindrical, paralleL'engaging faces mounted upon the ends of said-arm's and projecting substan- I tially at right angles therefrom, and a guardarm projecting from .the end of one of said arms to the-other, adjacent the innei' ends-of.
' said rollers, and having operative connection with said latter arm,.for the purpo'sesshown and described. f U
2. In a trousers-craser the combination of, the fiat metal arms pivoted'together between A A their ends tong fashion, and also bowed be:
tween their ends, the cylindric rolls journaled upon the ends of the respective arms upon parallel axes, said rolls being of substantially.
equal lengthandthe guard upon one of said arms arranged to overlap the end of the op posite arm, and provided with a slot engaging the stud upon said opposite arm and formed concentric with'the axis of bodily movement of the rolls, substantially as described.
3L In a trouserscraser the combination of the flat metal arms pivoted together between their ends tongfashion, and also bowed between their ends, the cylindric rolls journaled upon the ends-of the respective arms upon parallel axes, said rolls being of substantially slot engaging the stud upon said opposite arm and formed concentric With the axis of bodily movement of the rolls, substantially as described.
