CLOTHES-DRIER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 751,863, dated February 9, 1904.

Application filed December 19, 1902. Serial No. 135,880. (No model.)

To a whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, FREDERIOK S. IWIAGDOU- GALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of ashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Driers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to clothes-driers, and specifically to improvements in the clothesdrier shown and described in Letters Patent No. 714,001, dated November 18, 1902; and the object of the invention is generally to render the device more convenient and efficlent 1n operation and more simple and Inexpensive to construct.

It consists in the novel details of construction and arrangement of the parts without sacrificing the advantages of or departing essentially from the original principles involved in the aforesaid patented invention, as hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a clothes-drier embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the device with the parts lowered to their folded positions, and Fig. 3 is a central vertical sectional view showing the parts in the position of Fig. 1.

The improved clothes-drier comprises a backboard 2, a hinged leaf 3, and clothes-suspension arms 4, which are connected by pivotal screws 5 or the like to a carrier 6, mounted upon the said leaf and rotatable upon a pin '7, passing through both of the last-named parts. A hanger 8 is hinged in suitable supports, such as 9, to the backboard and is provided with rectangularly-disposed pendent arms 10, having at their extremities loops 11 for engaging projecting studs or hooks 12 of castings 18, secured to the leaf for suspending the latter in a horizontal position when in operation. Intermediate of the hanger-shank are two ofi'set toes 14, projecting downwardly in the same plane with the hanger-arms 10,

and preferably an upwardly-extending leverhandle 15, adapted to be pressed toward the back and disengage the said loops 11 from the studs 12 when it is desired to drop the leaf. A spring 16, positioned in an aperture 17 of the backboard, is utilized to insure the said loops remaining in normal engagement with the studs 12 and also when the leaf is dropped of the hanger-arms bearing positively against the backboard. Recesses 18 are provided in the periphery of the said carrier, by which it is locked to a set position by means of a latch 19, with lateral wings 20, seated in a groove 25, extending across the leaf adjacent to the backboard and retained in the said seat by the castings 13, forming a cap therefor. The outer extremities of said wings are reversely bent to form finger-pieces 21, by which the latch can be disengaged from the carrier when the latter is to be rotated, and an oppositelyextending part 22 for making connection with a spring 23, attached to the hinge-pivot 24.

The operation and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the foregoing.

Having described my improvements, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a hinged leaf, a carrier provided with peripheral recesses mounted thereon, and a pivot passing through said leaf and carrier, of a latch pivotally connected to the leaf and adapted to engage said recesses, wings extending transversely of the latch across the leaf, a finger-piece on the end of one of the said wings and a latch-spring.

2. A clothes-drier comprising a backboard, a leaf hinged thereto and adapted to fold downwardly, a carrier mounted on the leaf having recesses in the periphery thereof, clothes-suspension arms pivotally mounted on the carrier, a hanger adapted to engage the leaf to support the same, and spring means mounted in the backboard adapted to hold said hanger in position, substantially as described.
