MACHINERY FOR DOUBLE-FOLDING WIDE CLOTH.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 7,502, dated July 16, 1850 To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ZAOHARIAH ALLEN, of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful machine for performing the process of double folding Wide cotton cloths and other fabrics of the loom preparatory to book folding them in the manner now commonly practiced; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the construction of the same, with letters of reference to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification.
The machine is composed of a frame, to one side of which is attached a rigid piece of board or metal A, ext-ended to the middle of the cloth B, which is doubled above and beneath it by the attendant of the machine. The two selvages of the cloth being drawn evenly together, the tension against the eX- t-remity of the rigid projecting piece of board or metal, A, produces an even folding of the cloth in a longitudinal direction while it is drawn forward regularly by the revolving movement of the cloth roller, 0, around which it is wound by the action of the inferior roller, D, whereon it is firmly pressed by weights or springs acting on each end of the cloth roller, 0, as shown in the drawing.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The use and application of the rigid prong or extension piece, A, to act upon the middle of the piece of cloth in the process of folding it, in connection with. the winding rollers, C, D, to secure the exact double folding of the cloth as above described.
