OE NEW YORK, N. Y.
BELT-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 750,222, dated January 19, 1904.
Application filed July 18, 1903. Serial No. 166,122. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, ELISA E. ROBERTSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Belt-Holders, ofwhich the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in holding devices for belts and similar articles; and'its object is to provide a new, durable, and compact device of this character which is inexpensive in construction and which will securely retain a belt in proper position.
The invention consists in providing a baseplate to which is secured a holding-pin which is adapted to be inserted into a garment. AY clamping-lever is pivoted to this plate and is adapted to be held by means of a spring in engagement with the belt upon the base-plate.
The invention also consists in the further novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of my invention, and in Which- Figure l is aperspective view of the device, showing the parts open. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section therethrough, showing the device in engagement with a garment and holding a belt in position; and Fig. 3 is a detail view of the base-plate.
Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, l is a base-plate, which is forked at one end to form arms, which are bent to form eyes 2, within which is arranged a pivot-pin 3. Arranged betweenlthe eyes and upon the pin is a securing-pin 4L, having a sharpened end by means of which it may be readily inserted into a garment. Ears 6 extend laterally from the base-plate, near the end thereof removed from eyes 2, and a spring-strip 7, preferably formed of wire, is bent Varound these ears, as shown in Fig. 1, and the ends thereof project into ears 8, which are arranged at the inner end of a clamping-lever 9. Teeth 10 are formed at the inner end of this lever between the eyes 8, and
a securing-clip l1 is formed integral with the outer end of the lever. When it is desired to secure a belt by means of the device herein described, the'pin 4 is inserted through a garment12, as shown in Fig. 2, and a belt 13 is then placed over the base-plate l. Lever 9 is then swung upward, so as to bring the teeth 10 into engagement with the edge of the belt, 5 5 and said belt is thus securely clamped against the base plate. Olip 11, being formed of spring metal, engages the eyes 2 and serves to hold the lever in closed position. As the strip 7 is formed of spring metal, it is obvious that 6o the lever 9 is permitted to move away from the base-plate l when the teeth l0 are brought into engagement with the belt.
In the foregoing description I have shown the preferred form of my invention; but I do not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modi.- lications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the-right to make such changes as fairly fall 7o within the scope of my invention. l
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is In a device of the character described, the n combination .with a base-plate having eyes at one end, and laterally-extending lugs at the other end; of asecuring-pin pivoted between the eyes, a spring-strip engaging the lugs, a lever pivotally mounted upon said strip, beltengaging teeth at the inner end of the lever, 86
and a spring-clip integral with the lever and adapted to engage the eyes of the base-plate. In testimony whereof I afx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
