IMPROVEMENT IN DUST-RINGS 'FOR WATGHES.

Be it known that I, EDWARD HOWARD, oi' Boston` in the county of, Suffolk, and State of Miissn'chu'setzs, have invented a new anduseful Improvement in the Mode of' Securing thc Dust-Ringiso called) of Watches in place, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, making a pnrt of this specification, in which- Figure l represents a top or plan view of thedust-ringpf u'watch.

Figure 3 is an elevation ofthe watch-plates; and' Figure 1 is a. plan or top view of the same.
The object of. my invontionfis to secure the dust-ring of o watchin its' place in such a manner as to admit ofits being easily detached and again attached when necessary, while at the saine' time it forms :1 dust-tight joint around the works; and the invention consists in forming the lower 'ritn ofthe dust-ring with o snap edge nil :trouurl,fn-hich engages or fits vi'nto a corresponding reccssor 'groore formed. in the edge of the diallplat-e.
It is connnouvto arrange a-tlnst-ring within a watch so as to surround theworks and prevent the dust from entering, ns it is apt to do, between the joints of the-case.. "Thcse'.rings'hareg'eneIally hen fastened -by mea-ns of screws, which render their removal, when the watch is' to be taken .apart for repairs; somewhat ditiiculr.
They have also been fastened by means of springs, which add totheir cxpense, and do not u xake so tightajoint as by my invention. y

What if claim as my invention, nud desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'YI hevt-l or snap edge on Suid plate,lengaging with a corresponding edge in the dust-ring, substantially as und for the purpose set forth.
