Letters Patent No. 98,677, dated Jamla/ry 11, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN DUST-RINGS FOR WATCH-FRAMES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the name.
the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in watches, whereby the movement of the watch is protected from harm by reason of dust; and
It consists in a protecting-ring or band around the watch-movement, and attached thereto, of the form and construction hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 represents the back of the movement, showing the edge of the protecting-ring.
. Figure 2 is a vertical cross-section on the linea: z of fig. 1. v
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding part-s.
A is the protecting-ring, the upper edge of which closely fits the edge of the face B, as seen in fig. 2.
As also seen'in this figure, the ring extends down and covers the entirespace between the face and back of the watch, thus perfectly screening the wheels and the entire movement from dust.
The form of the protecting-ring (in cross-section) is O and D are offsets between the face and back, so made that the ring may conform to the shape and perfectly protect the entire movement.
The ordinary case is used with this improvement, and is not made with especial reference thereto, only being of snflieient diameter to admit it.
The protecting-ring is struck up from very thin metal, and at a slight expense.
It is attached to the movement by means of a pin on one side, as seen at c, beneath the dial-plate, and
by head of a screw on the back, as seen at f.
Having thus described my invention, I
I claim as new,-and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- A movement-protector for watches, consisting of the ring A, with ofi'sets C D thereon, and attached to the movement by means of pin e, as shown and described.
S. D. ENGLE.
